Excellent days fishing on the Usk. 7 Brown Trout caught and released. 3 Dry Fly; 4 Wet Fly.
River conditions ideal after the previous night's rain. Weather overcast but still warm enough to instigate a good hatch in the late afternoon.
Overall a great experience aided by an excellent recommended WUF Guide in Oliver Burch.

I was fly fishing and the river was quite full and there appeared to be a lot of silt downstream, maybe due to the fact that some maintenance work was being carried out on the bridge. Also some of the areas outlined in the map were inaccessible. I was staying at Vanilla Cottage near Chain Bridge which is an excellent base.

All fish on dry flies; Humpy and Kites Imperial from necks of pools. Most fish 10-14 inches. Lost and pricked many more. Lost a very big fish which just kept it's head down, felt like it could have been 2lb plus, perhaps it was a chub.

Lovely stream with easy access. A cool misty morning with nothing rising so I fished nymphs. I caught two wbt approx 8 inches long on ptn and lost two others. Donated a few flys to the trees but all in all a good few hours fishing!

Arrival at the river and saw fish rising in the streamy runs. Water clarity was excellent.
5 fish caught on nymphs the remainder on dries, mainly Klinks and Adams and shuttlecock CDC in small sizes.
An excellent days fishing overall.

So much for the over cast sky! River dropping quickly, started with a hint of colour, clear by the end of the day. It looked very promising early on, until the sun started!
3 trout to about 12inches, 1 shad about 2 1/2lbs which gave me a a bit of hope, if they can make it up the river then salmon must be able.
