After overnight rain it turned out to be a sunny day. The river was very low and fishing was slow. My son didn't fish due to illness so it was one rod only. I had one barbel 7-8lbs and lost two more, of which one was a very good fish. Unfortunately and unusually the hook pulled. I have fished here before and caught well but I think the current conditions are affecting the fishing rather than a lack of fish. *t was an enjoyable afternoon/evening in a great location. One suggestion is that the parking is very limited and maybe some hard standing could be created in the field entrance, as in wet weather parking is very risky indeed. This would be helpful, but thanks again to the Wye Usk Foundation.

WUF note - There is also a lower parking area whioch is marked on the map and can be used in adverse conditions.

River low but carrying some colour. Fish proved difficult to find, this wasn't helped by the fact that there are very few fishable swims especially in the middle field, expected more from a WUF stretch. Very disappointed not good value for money.

WUF note - There are 8 swims cut in the top field of this beat and the lower field is open, grazed banks. It is simply not possibly to cut any swims in the middle field as the banks are too high and dangerous. This middle field is very short compared to the large fields either side of it. This beat has a total of 15 swims created with options to create several more. Please see the beat gallery on our website to see the swims available.

We arrived bright eyed and bushy tailed the day started well had one barbel 7lb 5ozs in the first half hour no more activity in the morning. We left the water at 11am as the canoe traffic was high. After lunch we came back to the water at 2:30pm to find that all the rain in the morning had added colour to the water also the canoe traffic was worse than the morning so did not start fishing till 4pm when things eased somewhat. (I think some canoeist are oblivious to other users of the river as some decided to share there lunch right in front of my son's swim)
I love the stretch and know what it is capable of but will make a mental note to self not to fish at the weekends during the holidays.
The barbel was caught on pellet over loose fed pellet.

Hard fishing on the day but a beautiful spot. The banks here are very steep so if your not too good on your feet or like a comfortable swim this might not be for you. The other downside is the Island. Every canoeist thinks it is a great spot to stop for a swim ,toilet, dump rubbish and skim stones. Some were very rude, drunk and not very nice people not why are they not policed? Even the locals I spoke to were not very happy. 4 rods is 2 many on this beat.

WUF note - This beat is bookable for 2 individuals or a group of up to 4 anglers in the same party.

Beautiful, hard to say more. Had great day apart from weather and doing an impression of the scared cat in Tom and Jerry when sliding towards the water. Raining hard and slippy but a great day. Three barbel, all over seven pounds and hard fishing but weather not ideal. Thanks WUF, great experience.

Arrived at 4.30pm. A nice walk down the fields just before a big downpour whilst mixing the ground bait. I decided to try a lone piece of luncheon meat and had 2 bites straight away resulting in one barbel of 5 1/2lb. By this time my father in law had just cast in. We were getting lots of knocks on meat but even when hooking fish it was hard to get them in as there a lots of snags for them to throw the hook. David also missed a few and lost a lovely barbel at the net but was loving the action. I then had 2 barbel of 6lb+, 1 on krill pellet and one on garlic pellet. Time was flying when at about 8pm David got his barbel weighing 8lb 5oz. It was a cracking fish and made his night. I caught a lovely chub at 9pm before moving further up stream where on my 3rd last cast I caught a 9lb 3oz barbel. Although it was a shortish session we had plenty of action and should have caught more but its a snaggy stretch and this resulted in a few lost feeders. Plenty of salmon rising but it's very low with little flow in places.
Thanks to WUF for my late booking it's a great beat. Fished near the Weir Garden, only worrying thing was at 9.45pm as we left a chap on a bike with fishing gear was coming along the field towards where we had been. Back soon.
We were staying in Hoarwithy and also checked out Tressecks and Red Rail stretch and saw a chap from the campsite catching barbel but had no landing net. He said he had been told it was free fishing and had caught about 6 barbel.
