Upstream section very limited for swims.
First swim of downstream section produced 3 barbel to 7.4lbs and 3 chub further down. I had 2 barbel and 2 chub plus lost 2 barbel bites on corn, best using time bomb filled with corn. More bites than using pellets.

Fishing:Trout (River)

The river was low, although a little higher than this time last year in the heatwave. Managed to tempt one trout, fin perfect and fighting fit, of around 8 inches on a pheasant tail fished through some faster water. Beautiful, little river and nice pub in Longtown. River banks/access in great condition. Just needed some more water! But it is the height of Summer after all. I will be back for sure. Almost certain I saw a kingfisher as well, which was magical.

Reasonable flow and very inviting pools. Need to use chest waders to be able to progress along the river as bank access is limited due to the shrub growth inside the fence line. Was only able to make headway for 100 yds each side of bridge due to anno domini/lack of chest waders that day. Please note that WUF directions are misleadingly laborious from Abbey Dore, so, much better to go straight by main road to Vowchurch and then a short spurt to Chanstone Court (see OS map and reference). No fly life, or pulls from the deep, but scope in the shallower streamy water.....

Just to confirm reports of other anglers on the beat (see 3 July feedback). We fished on 30th June and had the same experience - 2 salmon anglers turned up to fish. Nice guys and had a good chat etc. One said he would try for some barbel as the salmon prospects were no good - he didn't and they both subsequently left. It wasn't a big deal but it could have been if they had fished where we wanted to. If the owner wants to let others fish, then that's his right but it should be clearly stated and the price amended accordingly.

Lovely looking stretch with faster shallow water and deeper slower glides. Fished pellet feeder and waggler but struggled to catch during the day with only 1 chub and 1 barbel between us. Had 5 barbel in the evening once the sun was off the water.

Really interesting beat and many different types of swims to investigate. Most of the chub caught on the stick with small pellet along the biggest barbel [typical].
