Arrived late morning for first of two days fishing. River was dropping and running quick, not much streamer weed. Fished an hour or so straight away as couldn't resist and caught several barbel and chub. Then left the stretch for the afternoon to the canoeists. Fished again in the evening and what a great session. Lovely summer weather, maybe a bit too bright but plenty of fish. The rod didn't rest for long. Already planning a return.

Started early and Dad perched at Boys Rock while I fished a swim down. I had a barbel of about 5lbs first cast. It then went quiet for me until about 9.30am when I had another barbel of similar size followed by a chub next cast. In the mean time Dad had lost two barbel, one small one at the net and a better one to a snag. We fished on till lunch time with one more chub to my rod. I also lost a barbel going down to an 8lb hook-link to try and tempt a bite and was snapped on a rock. We then returned at about 6pm and fished till 8.15pm or so, both catching a chub first cast and Dad loosing a good barbel. Nice stretch and not a far walk from the car, would like to do a bit more exploring next time.

Lovlely valley, great place, river clear. Warm, dry day but very windy. Dry fly seemed to be the order of the day. Nothing rising small amount of fly life each run and hole look very fishy. Eventually caught on duo set up. Saw kingfishers and dippers. Total - 3 brown trout to 5 inches.

Well not a bad start to the new season. Fished the bottom pool as advised by Don and caught steadily from first cast.I used both feeder and float and caught well on both methods. This was the first time I have fished this short and shallow stretch of the Wye but it wont be the last. Many thanks to Don and the WUF.

Second day on river Wye. completely different to opening day. Plenty of chub between one and five pounds and some big eels(three pounds plus) that thought they were barbel taking 18mm halibut pellets. Once the sun was off the water managed two cracking barbel around the eight pound mark. All fish in really good condition. River at summer level with little colour. Not many snags in this stretch. My only niggle was the lack of swims. between the line of trees and the end of the beat only two, and those hardly cut back. Six foot nettles are not nice to walk through!

River spot on with just a touch of colour. 1st time on this beat and as the description suggests, perfect for early season sport. Fast water with some deeper parts and a lovely pool at the downstream end. Started on the feeder with pellet and corn on the hook. Caught from the off and managed 15 Chub between 3 and 4lb with loads of 8oz fish. Lost a barbel early on then had a 6lb barbel and a couple of Chub rolling meat at the lower limit. Managed a couple more Barbel in the afternoon but the evening feeding spell never really happened. Also had an Eel on Sweetcorn! Spoke to the landowner Charles who was happy to help with info and questions. A lovely beat in lovely countryside, I will be back!
