A long walk from the new car park, for very few swims. The river was very low for the time of year. No fish caught. The day did not start well as the bridge at Hoarwithy was closed for repairs, meaning a long diversion.

Fished from 4pm till 8.30pm. Water at 1ft 5" falling to 1ft 3" 4ft vis and just under 17 degrees C.

A blisteringly hot afternoon. 30 degrees at 4pm! Started on the faster water on the bottom half but gave up after fishing Mill stream and the neck and middle of Rectory and retired for a drink. Moved up to upper half and no sign of a fish until the sun went off the water. Saw a couple head and tail in final hour (tail of Rock and between the stones in the Bridge pool) and heard another jump behind me when fishing tail of Rock pool. Only excitement was a tightening to a worked fly at the end of the tail of the Rock pool, around the spot I had seen a fish show a few minutes before.

One of the hottest days of the year, most of the day was spent trying to keep cool and hydrated! However; the evening fishing around the cribs was really enjoyable and I managed to catch a very nice barbel of 8lb 12oz, a stunning fish. A really nice beat and would fish it again.

Although a good day was had by all including a 3lb eel and P.B. barbel for a fellow angler. The lack of prepared pegs was a concern. Also fishermen from the other bank sat in the middle of the river fishing the side we booked was also a concern.

Good day despite weather conditions. Trotting using banded pellets was the order of the day. REALLY in need of a decent down pour to flush the river through and increase the water level.

No sign of any salmon. Small trout came to a salmon fly. A large chub took a spinner. All fish returned. No significant rises from trout even though there was plenty of insect life.
