River was slightly coloured, and was dropping after being up this week. 9 barbel and 1 chub came from 1 swim, the other 8 barbel came from 3 separate swims. We caught on 8mm halibut pellets. Don't spend too long in a swim if it's not producing.

Visiting anglers Bob and Jack worked hard all day in superb conditions. Fish were showing to keep up the spirits and they were rewarded with a good 12lb hen fish at the end of the day from beat 5, fishing from the right bank.

Feeling a strong urge to get on the Arrow once more before seasons end I booked knowing conditions would be tough. A low and clear river certainly made it challenging. As expected no sign of fish on the surface. Tried dry flies but to no avail. Had some success working flows into the deeper pools with weighted nymphs. Five fish in total, two of which were approaching a pound. An even larger one gave an angry, acrobatic display before shaking itself off a size 16 GRHE.

We were hoping for some big grayling but they were elusive. Instead there were some trout feeding in the margins that could be caught on dries.

A couple of hours on the Bridge Flats produced 11 grayling to dry flies (small tan & grey klinkhammers mostly) and many more missed. Nearly all were of the same year class of just under the pound mark.

River low for time of year, walked the beat, top looks good for chub, must give this a go next time.
Took the first two swims by the old bridge. On the stick and feeder.

All fish caught on dry fly. First time on the Lugg - river looked like it could do with a bit more depth to it but was still a great day. Trout were small but lively, grayling about 1lb.

Guided by Oliver Burch. Lovely beat. 2 small browns at beginning of beat on Orange Otter; 1 medium-sized grayling (12") at upper end on grayling blue fly. Cloudy in morning, brighter in afternoon. Quite hard fishing.
