A hot sunny day and a beat with little cover had me struggling. Not helped by having to return to yesterdays beat to retrieve my fly box from the riverbank (I was tired!). I started late morning. Just a trickle of Olives and a couple of Yellows. Not a rise seen in five hours. Disappointed with myself for probably fishing the wrong time of day for the weather conditions? An awkward nil return!

Bright and sunny afternoon, fished upstream of caravan sight as access to stream at confluence was rather tricky.
Saw only one fish rise despite abundant fly life including a steady trickle of Mayfly. Caught two wbt to weighted gold headed ptn the smallest of which was only four times bigger than the hook.
Access to the top half of the fishery was almost impossible due to the presence of large fallen trees and very deep water.

A lovely day to be out but not a fish seen or caught. No hatch to speak of but the odd mayfly rising and some LDO too.
There has been some pretty drastic work around the island halfway up the beat and a job has scoured the bottom of the river bed around that area - whether or not this had any effect on the fish or not I can't say...
Will definitely go back - it looks very fishy indeed!

Warm and sunny evening a few fish rising. Caught one wbt at 8 inches on gold headed ptn. Changed to dry Mayfly and caught a further 6 inch wbt and an 8 inch grayling.

A short but enjoyable return to this beat though it seems to have even more thin connecting water than I remembered and the wretched sycamore is rampant in places. Two small early fish on nymph encouraged optimism but then, trawling a promising, short pot of a pool, I connected with a good fish that flashed a foot or more down, jagged about sharply and sent the hook flying back.
Two further losses to the only risers I spotted, which both came to the nymph quietly, was demoralising and bar a solitary Brook Dun which settled on me and a few Mayfly Duns on the wing there wasn't much to bring fish up. Finally hung onto a pretty, red-speckled 11-ouncer after it leapt three times, and before long found I had already waded and wobbled my way to the top of the beat. A bit of careful pruning would open this stretch nicely.

Very bright sunny/warm day -- too bright. Fished morning and evening to miss bulk of sun. No fish seen. Good to be back fishing at this lovely stretch.

Beautiful conditions, but only had until lunchtime. Tonnes of fly life. One on and off in lower pool near car park area; one or two rising towards lunchtime. No other fish seen otherwise.

24" on the Llanstephan gauge is too high to fish this beat for wbt effectively. It's just that bit too high to wade across and up some of the magical pools this beat holds.
Nymphed a couple of smaller trout out and was rewarded with a really hard fighting 12"er on a Yellow May pattern.
It seems the smaller streams were the places to be mid May 2014, with perhaps these bigger pieces of water a month or so behind. Wiser WUF regulars would be a better judge than me to determine whether this is normal / late. I can't help feeling the latter as the hatches have been pretty good and consistent but the fish don't seem to be switched on in numbers.
