An interesting days fish on a lovely beat.
There was very little activity early on but at around 1pm
a few Olives started to come off the water and fish started to look up, ended up with 3 fish all on dries; March Brown and CDC dun. Best fish was about 16" with a bigger fish seen but not risen.
A good day.

Clear and relatively high water and bright skies, and not a sight of a salmon all day. Two decent chub (would have been great on the right tackle, but not so much fun on a 15' salmon rod).
Lovely water. Apart from around the pools/runs just above and below footbridge it seems most of it fishes best from the left bank (for a fly), this could be clearer in the beat details.

First trip out in my 50th season of fishing. A typical Usk starter! On the river about 11 with medium olives hatching. Rose 6 fish in first hour - hooked 2 - landed none. They have been practicing over winter! Never mind, James had 3 to hand by this time. I turned it around with two fish in the afternoon whilst LDOs hatched which left us with 2 x 15", 2 x 12" and 1 x 10" wbt between us, all on para olive dun, and all returned. All quiet again on the river by 4pm.
We thought we had a March Brown but it lacked the obligatory leg spots - what does that make it I wonder?

15lbs 8oz springer caught at 8pm on black and silver Flying C. My first ever salmon on my 4th day of trying. An even bigger springer, fully sighted through the 12 minute battle, lost in the morning to a near bank snag in a failed attempt at netting. Probably, on capturing this later and much smaller fish, it was 25 plus.

FSFF, guided 2 anglers. The river was 53F and running clear. Height 1ft 3" on the Llanstephan gauge. There was a morning hatch of grannom and trickles of large upwings occurred throughout the day. Trout and grayling rising but mostly sporadically. Total catch 6 trout and 3 grayling. Best fish 1lb 4oz brown trout. Most fish on dry flies.

A delightful day. The river looked beautiful and the primroses, cowslips, wood anemones were joined by the first bluebells (just up from the pumping station, lower beat).

Best wishes,

My first time on this pleasant beat. Arrived at 11.30am to find a mixed hatch of (late) March Browns and LDOs in progress with trout rising. As this was on the lower pools, I found it difficult to cover the rises and was unable to take advantage of the hatch which didn't last long. Didn't see much of a hatch for rest of day but persisted with dry and suspended nymph only catching one small trout. At 4pm switched to fishing a pair of nymphs and caught 5 good trout by 5.30pm all on GRHE nymph, the best a beauty of 2lb 8oz which gave away its position when it made a huge slashing rise to a stranded LDO.

Nothing seen or caught. Water conditions and weather perfect. Some very nice fly runs on the seven sisters beat which would benefit from a day or two with the chain saw to cut back overhanging branches and clear bankside vegetation. This would bring more water into use.
Booking administration very friendly and efficient.

Lovely beat a bit cold. Took 2 off the top with olive klinkhamer late morning. This was half way along the beat
fishing from the bank into a deep pool during hatch of olives. Difficult to cast to the right position from the bank. Persistance paid off. 2 taken with GRHE nymph bottom of beat near parking area later in the day. All small .
Nice days fishing.
