A beautiful stretch of the Upper Wye. Cold easterly wind and unseasonal conditions did not help flylife hatches, but a few fish were still rising now and again for a sporadic hatch of small upwinged mayfly from 11 - 16:00. Four nice trout caught between two rods the best of which was 1lb 8oz with one or two larger fish pricked and others seen. We will return later in the summer in the hope of warmer conditions. Still a lovely day on the water.

Lovely day and water perfect for fly. Started at Rockpool and landed a 9lb cock fish at 12.30, which was returned safely. Fish taken on small brass tube dressed with yellow hackle and orange and black streamer with lureflash.
Fish was in excellent condition and put up quite a fight.
Again little or no rise of trout and only the odd yellow may dun seen. Not seen a mayfly yet.
Fished for trout until 4pm subsurface with the same flies as last week with no takes.
Good to get off the mark so early in season.
Looks like a non starter tomorrow as its 1.44m and more rain forecast tomorrow in the catchment.

Fished the Taf Fechan. A lovely little stream high up in the mountains, full of Brook Dunns and Large Dark Olives. Managed to catch well over 3 dozen small fish ranging from 4 inches up to 8 inches. Great fun on a single dry fly picking pockets and runs.

1 x 6 inch fish on size 14 adams. Very hard not to spook the pools infront as not many real shallows/necks to pools and the spooked fish from your pool just spook fish further up the river! Really challenging, will be back.

Blank for Salmon, 2 x Shad and a good size brownie gave me short lived hope. Interesting and well maintained beat with some fishing from croys and some wading at the bottom. Thank you.

A great day's fishing with plenty of fish. Mostly about 10-13ins with a few larger fish the largest being about 1lb. There were loads of fish in the river but they are not easy to catch. We saw one fish that looked to be at least 2lb but could not get it to take. A great beat and we will certainly return.

Conditions were good but the fishing was very hard indeed, not for the inexperienced. There were very large numbers of very small (size of index finger) fish in this beat one of which we caught on a small dry fly but larger fish were few and far between. We saw 2 larger fish during the day (~12") and disturbed what we thing were a couple more but they proved very difficult to catch. Despite fishing very carefully and fishing the beat one by one in sections we were unable to catch any larger fish. I fished a single upstream nymph for most of the day. The gravel seemed quite silty in much of the beat with poor weed growth and on turning over some stones there wasn't a great deal of fly life. Plenty of small midges and we did see a 3/4 LDO duns at around midday.

Landed two trout and hooked another three. Black spider with UV Thorax most effective and Olive body nymph. The water was not particularly clear. Very few fish moving. Not an easy beat to access due to heavy undergrowth which limits significantly the amount of the beat which is fishable. However, enjoyed my day. Some ephemerids hatching but very sporadic.
