Only fished for a short while, so perhaps not surprising that we didn't connect with anything. The river was still falling and clearing after heavy rain, but conditions looked reasonably favourable and certainly worth a return trip. Very much a small stream / short rod kind of beat.

Spent 1.25hrs on the upper section of this Lilliputian beat in mid-afternoon, after trying in the morning but was beaten to it by another angler who perhaps like me had read JM's entry from Wednesday and was taking his advice!
No fish rising but occasional up-wing emerging (Iron Blues or Medium Olives?). Hawthorn flies and Black midges in evidence and an Alder fly sitting on a fence post!
Fished with surface fly and suspended nymph - a size 16 Gold-headed Endrick Spider on which I caught the fish and missed others.

Great to be back on the river again. One salmon seen head and tailing in Gravel catch early on. Alas no salmon and no takes. River too coloured for most of the day for fly. But a most enjoyable day none-the-less.

Sparse but varied hatch during the couple of hours I fished, olive dun, Klink and small nymph taking fish.
Lovely little brook with plenty of diverse habitat in a small package. The only worrying observation is the amount of HB along the banks.

Water high but clear-ish. Modest hatch of large olives, with sporadic rises, around lunch-time. Got two good fish of 15 and 16 inches, the larger evidently a stockie, on nymph - wet fly, it seems (being employed by Brecon AA opposite), would have worked better. Lost one good fish on dries. 10 pound salmon, not quite fresh, seen twice in same place - ie apparently holding there.

Fished the whole beat, 11 to 5:30
The main river was clear and high, with water temp' 49F. There was hardly any fly life -- just 3 or 4 LDOs and a couple of stoneflies. I fished the main stem without seeing a fish rise and without any interest to either nymph or dry fly.
I then fished the Crai which was 52F and there was a strong hatch of LDOs, though only one fish was seen rising. I caught that fish and one other, estimated weights 1 and 2 lbs. The beat is quite breath-takingly beautiful; though the bridge and waterfall pools resolutely remain a mystery.

Made an early start and fished the morning. Fished various small nymphs(HEs and PTNs) and some shrimps but drew a blank. Saw just two small trout and didn't seem to disturb any others. No fly and no rising fish. Turned over a lot of stones and woody debris and surprisingly found no nymphs at all. Loads of Gammarus and huge numbers of what appear to be mini-caddis houses! Beautiful. Maybe the stream will wake up when these caddis pupate and produce adults. If that emergence is anything like on the Usk, then, like most things this year,it is overdue, but should be any time soon. Hope it happens before the bankside vegetation closes in!!

Fishing:Trout (Stillwater)

Fished from 8-30am till 2pm- Temp 6 degrees rising to 12 degrees overcast with sunny intervals wind making the water choppy. Between the three of us caught limit using worm on x 3 and bubble x 1 bottom - the rest on spinner pink and gold colour. Look out for the Perch a real nuisance on worm but gave plenty of action. All fish good condition from 1-1.5 pounds.
