Apart from the slight frost the river looked perfect. Fining down at more or less spot on level. But dispite this we struggled. Two barbel 4lb & 7lb & 5 chub 2lb each. This is great looking beat with plenty of accessable swims, will be back.

No catch due to cold, misty and rainy weather maybe.
Service of the Foundation perfect for sending the Wye/Usk passport so promptly. The reservoir very nice but difficult to fish however I enjoyed my two days fishing on 7th and 8th of October.

The morning proved quite difficult with just the odd fish here and there. During the early afternoon we managed to find a pod of fish which were more than happy to come to the surface to take the dry fly. From there on we had a good day both fishing to rising fish and prospecting with a Klinkhammer along much of the beat. Around 20-30 fish to the net with approx. 70% being grayling.

River 3 feet up and dropping. Two of us fished the well worn pegs at the very bottom of the beat, which produced 3 barbel in the 5 to 7lb range. I fished a lovely looking swim 2/3 of the way up the beat, opposite the top island, but only had one chub on meat. All barbel were caught on pellet.

Not ideal conditions. The river was in flood and we had bright sunshine all day. No sign of any barbel. 2 dace and 1 eel. An expensive and disapointing day, which we had looked forward to for months. Nothing you can do about the weather unfortunatly. We did well here in the Summer so know the potential of this beat. We did find two other anglers fishing the beat later in the day and asked them to leave, explaining that we had booked this up months ago and had paid £80.00 for 4 anglers and unfortunatly two were unable to make it. They did leave, but perhaps some better signage is required? Good luck and better weather to all those lucky anglers fishing here in the coming months.

Overnight rain left river about 4 foot higher than we we were used to on this stretch, with river in flood flowing twice as fast as normal. Had a couple of bites myself losing the last one in the weeds. My fishing mate moved swim to get a couple of barbel of about 5 & 9lbs so not so bad after all.

Another tough day; 4 barbel caught best just under 8lb, river very high although dropping slightly, colour of chocolate and really pushing through. As the river dropped the flow seemed to increase. All fish came in an hour between 2pm and 3.30pm in the afternoon on boillees.

River was on the rise and well coloured for our trip but 3 of us found a total of 14 barbel up to 9lbs 7oz.
Bites were spasmodic during the day and all came to pellets fished on feeder rigs.

River was blasting through chocolate coloured with trees and other stuff hurtling past after heavy rain. Well up so not ideal conditions but despite this over 2 days we landed 10 barbel to around 9lb and 3 chub to about 5lb, all fell to pellet. Stepped up gear (rod and weights) definitely necessary to combat the powerful flow when its like this. Access to the top end, whilst not easy, is worth the effort but parking is a bit of a pain. Doesn't matter though, its better than a good day in the office!
