In addition to SE from Waterlooville's report.
He left just before dusk and I fished on until the last minute. Just as I reached for my rod to reel in and pack up the tip pulled round resulting in a 3lbs 9ozs chub. My only bite of the day.

10am to 1.30pm, trotting maggots. From swim below entry 1, oos trout, a good 2lber, 1 chub of around 2lb and then 6 barbel in about 20mins, must have attracted a shoal of barbel in 2 to 3lb size. I fished well overdepth and held back heavily, the barbel would only take to that method. I have noticed this on other occasions also. Moved to Quay, took another oos smaller trout then plagued by minnows. Bottom pool 1 grayling of 10inches or so then it rained and bites ceased.

11" on the gauge, clear water, overcast in the morning, brighter in the afternoon. Couple of grilse showing in the Stepping Stones early on but no offers.
First time on the beat. Along with studded soled waders and a wading stick (absolute essentials on this beat) the ability to Spey cast is pretty necessary too (not something I'm great at!). The walk up to the top of the beat along the bank is pretty hard going too, all in all a pretty challenging beat.
Looking forward to trying some other beats through the WUF.

Fishing:Winter Grayling
No. of Anglers:1
Weather: Dull, cloudy, rain in morning, air temp. 10-12C.
River: fairly low and clear.
Whilst fishing near church, an otter swam directly towards me. At the same moment my only grayling took hold and was landed (1lb 9oz), presumably the lesser of two evils from the grayling's point of view !!
Also caught approx 12 OOS trout.
Grayling took gold head pheasant tail nymph with red 'collar'.

We arrived on a very wet day, river was very low. We fished in the woods until Don came and told us we were fishing the wrong place My partner moved to where Don said and had 2 chub around 4lbs. I stayed in the wood due to restricted mobility, lots of line bites and nothing until 6pm when the reel just went off. I am glad the baitrunner was engaged, 10 minutes later I landed a immaculate 8.5 to 9lbs Barbel. Very hard day, fish very elusive. The access to most pegs is hard, travel light mostly on wet conditions.

Beat:The Eyton Beat
Fishing:Winter Grayling

The weather was awful - windy, raining and very dull, but the river was low and very clear so the fishing was limited to the deeper pools. Hard work, particularly in the top section where access is almost impossible due to fallen trees.

Despite recent rain ,river low and clear. Weed a problem coming downstream. No barbel just 3 chub between 2 of us. All chub came late afternoon and evening to luncheon meat.
Rain on and off all day.
Word of caution regarding parking, the field becomes very slippery and could cause problems for non 4WD vehicles. Just managed to get ours out.
3 Chub

Area:Lower Wye
Beat:Goodrich Court
Fishing:Salmon
No. of Anglers:1
A wet and cold day at first turning sunny. Salmon seen in Vanstone. First Chub on the fly.
Access to the upper section difficult and exit even harder. Ladder or rope would help. The parking area has been moved further downstream, making it much less convenient if reliant on car for changing gear and lunch.
Many thanks to the Wye & Usk Foundation.
WUF note - Unfortunately the parking arrangements had to be changed as a result of some anglers previously not following the specific beat instructions on the paperwork provided. ALL anglers MUST adhere to these rules or more situations like this will arise.

Barbel 6-7lbs, lovely condition. Chub 3-4lbs, very quiet due to NE wind, still, always a beautiful spot to fish.
