Had a good day on the woods stretch, fished 1/3rd across with Pellet and feeder. Arrived at first light and lost a fish in the first half hour. Waited for another hour before a Chub of about 3 pounds snared itself.
Despite the Canoe traffic, caught steady through the day but not what I would call all action. The highlight was a 10lb 4oz Barbel which fought like a demon. Lost another good fish which I think was foul-hooked as I didn't get a bite, just reeled in to re-bait. Also had a few Eels, all lip hooked and all carefully handled and safely returned. River was slightly-up but running clear.
I love this fishery and the Barbel do seem to be a bigger average size than most other beats.

Started fishing at 6am and picked up 10 by 8am, all between 8 and 14 inches. All took size 18 beadhead. Then it was a struggle to catch when the sun was up. Nothing rising so persevered with nymph till 12pm only taking a few more. Had 2 heavy fish hit nymph in one of the pools but after short tussle both were off. Cracking mornings fishing could of been more, some days they stick others they shake the hook.

I had one small sewin of about 1.5 pounds in the day on the fly. It went quiet as it got dark but it also rained for about half an hour. After the rain cleared the fish began to show and jump just as my phone and head torch batteries died. There are a lot more fish present in the river since the last flood.

Blanked again. The river came very much alive, with many rises, just as it was getting dark.

Fished down from the bridge following reading the most recent reviews; tried across and down with a goldhead PTN on the point and tried a few different north country spiders on mid and top dropper. Managed to spook one WBT (around 6") and saw two brief rises about halfway down this section of the beat but no response to my offerings. As per previous comments, river did look low and we saw at least one kingfisher, three sightings - absolutely stunning blue in the sunshine. Would like to fish this with someone who has a little more river experience than I do to point me in the right direction!

Two rods fished a number of swims at the top of the beat, trying to find the faster water. We took barbel from all swims but it was non consistent. The "beach" swim is very snaggy, we found to avoid the snags it was best to cast up stream into the main pool.
We stayed until last knockings but despite the river looking spot on, we failed to get a bite in the last hour.

A first visit to this beat for me,a lovely stretch with plenty of variation.3 barbel and 4 chub taken early before the sun was on the water, biggest barbel 7lb 3oz.
W.U.F, are anglers allowed to take vehicles into the field at the lower end of the beat? As someone was doing so,maybe a friend of the farmer?
Also regarding vehicles, I fished yesterday at White House and some anglers were driving along the river bank,is this allowed now? As my information specifically says not to.
WUF Note : Driving along the bank at White House is NOT allowed.
