Fishing:Trout (River)

Water level high but only slightly coloured. Fished afternoon. Several small WBT on various dry and GRH, all returned. Memorable sight of family of small otters (?) playing in the tree roots on opposite bank just a couple of rod lengths away. Also memorable were the fierce horseflies and prize nettles!
We will return!

No fish at all didn't see one.
I believe you must help numbers by breeding salmonoids
It's working very successfully in Canada.

Conditions were spot on water was a good height and overcast until 3:30pm. Saw two salmon (running fish) and had a good pull which took line from the reel but never connected (from the bathing pool). Such lovely fly water and a lovely beat. Will be back again.

2 rods fished whole day. River holding at 2ft. 1 very fresh hen fish of around 11lb from Gravel catch around 9.30am. Another strong pull missed in Bridge pool in the morning and a fish lost in the Bridge pool after 20 seconds in the afternoon. 4 shad. Saw four salmon show which is notable as have seen very few in past month or so. Trout were steadily rising all day in the Gravel catch and Bridge flats.

The second of my three outings on the usk. Having never fished the beat before I started nymphing the streamy sections in the absence of any rising fish and was fairly quickly into a couple of fish. Was quite hard going though until i moved up to the top pool around lunchtime where there were some fish rising. caught a couple on a cdc dun and a few more on a nymph under a dry. Another good day although failed to connect with some off the bruisers that ive heard inhabit this stretch. Cheers to Paul for the use of his phone to keep me from getting into trouble with the missus! Sounds like he had the right idea staying on late!
