No fish was caught. The day was sunny and water was very clear. Few occasional hatches of olives and sedges during the day and no surface activity was seen. Evening shower seemed to kill off the evening hatch. Disappointing result fish wise but had a beautiful day out.

One fish followed to the edge but did not take.

Nine trout caught up to 1lb 4oz, one fish taken for the pot, two larger fish lost all on small cdc's.

The conditions were pefect for an evenings fishing in the carpark of Sainsburys in Cwmbran, but by the time I'd driven to Brecon the temperature had dropped from 25 deg to 18 degrees and there was a stiff breeze blowing straight down the river, as was the sun.
Fished more in hope than anticipation from 5 pm, spotted an otter frollicking in the narrow section above the Cynrig. This for me is normally a productive stretch, perhaps no so much in the future !particularly as i could see what looked like a "nest ?" "set ?"
Otter notwithstanding I caught a stocky on a klink and tempted two others which didnt connect.
Sat down on the river bank about 8:30, breeze had dropped. Waded out into the river as fish started to rise around 10 pm, most of the fish were out of reach. Connected with something big about 10:45 in the pitch black lost it after much heavy splashing about 5 seconds later.
Chip shop was shut in Crickhowell.

5 x small trout on a small Goldbead Hare's Ear fished under a dry Caddis pattern, New Zealand style. I was surprised at how much muddy water was even now coming down this brook, which does after all drain a lot of arable land in S Herefordshire. I fished the lower bit up to the weir, but the upper section, which at the best of times is a deep wade in a narrow channel, just had too much water coming down it get upstream safely. A pity, because some better fish live up there. I decamped for the rest of the evening to Cannop Brook in the nearby Forest of Dean...

6 x trout 6-8 inches. Just an hour of fishing time before I was due to take She Who Must Be Obeyed to the pub, so I only did the upper bit. A warm, darkish evening under the trees with plenty of very clear, cold water coming down and, to my surprise, a few of the true mayfly are still out and about on this stream. As it happened, I already had an Elk Hair Caddis tied on the leader, which seemed quite acceptable to these small but very pretty forest trout.

After several visits to Wyebank it was a joy to arrive and get set up for a days fishing. Conditions looked good with the river up around a foot and slowly dropping. The day was spent trotting and feeder fishing. It took a while to get the fish feeding but late afternoon the action started and the fish caught were 5 barbel 5 to 6lbs, 7 chub to 4lbs, lots of chublets, dace and a eel. Another joyful visit to this beautiful fishery and lovely to see it in its unspoilt natural state thanks to Dons expert management. Another visit soon me thinks....

Last day of our 1st 3 day fishing holiday on the Wye for this year. Found directions to Lower Cannon very accurate as ever and after reading some previous comments regarding access we were relieved to find a WUF parking notice in the Farm Yard. We used the first access to the river as identified on our beat map, through both fields with the cows & calfs, only to discover on our return home that this path has now been closed. Apart from the swims from the weir down to the wall end opposite the gardens, we only managed to find a couple of swims lower down where the river slows and widens, where we blanked, probably down to a Mink and Otter which we spotted working the river. Total fish caught was 18 barbel and 4 chub between the four anglers, best single catch being 7 barbel and a single chub from a swim nearing the end of the wall on the opposite bank. Many swims were very snaggy as we all lost plenty of ledger weights, another red hot day on the Wye, looks like we captured the best 3 consecutive fine days of 2012. Short session today due to the blistering heat, so I only fished for 3 hours from 9 til 12. Had 1 barbel of 5 1/2 lbs and lost another which nearly dragged my rod into the river.

Arrived early morning. Sun shining. As this was my first visit I checked out length of beat and chose to fish accessible swim about midway in "near bank gulley". Quiet but improved midday. Caught 4 nice chubb and 1 barbel.
Wonderful location in beautiful countryside. Parking in wet conditions would be restricted. Another very enjoyable day. Thank you W.U.F.
