River fallen to normal height but still running strongly. Trout from 4oz to a pound and a half - all lovely fish.Taken on dry fly. Hackled light brown or dun coloured flies , fished either purposefully to the odd rising fish or more often fished "blind" in riffles. Easily accessible bit of river just downstream of Talybont bridge but much of the stretch difficult to access from Ashford house side because of steep banks and overgrown willows and other trees. Nonetheless an excellent day trout fishing.

30th May, Steve Grimwood caught 2 salmon, a 10lb and 20lb on Devon minnow-Llysdinam.
This morning (31st May), Robin Woods caught a 21lb salmon (personal best) and lost one other on rapala. Also caught a 4lb brown trout again at Llysdinam.

Bagged 4 fish on Marabou Damsel Nymph before lunch. Bright, sunny day. Breeze picked up after lunch making things very difficult. Enjoyable day nevertheless.

18 x trout 6-10 inches. Lest I should be accused of telling stretchers, I should mention that, with two exceptions, the majority of these trout were nearer 6 inches than 10. Much nearer. Apart from those which just made it to the 6 inch barrier, some of the pools were full of little fellows of 4 and 5 inches just desperate to drown a Klinkhammer. If you looked closely at those which stayed on, you could see that many of these tiddlers looked more like small adults than parr. Rather like my local Blackpool Brook. My first time on the Upper Cilieni and it's an interesting stream - a proper wild one and a real jungle down at the bottom end; a bit more open above the bridge where you park. Not quite a typical upland stream with a bottom of gravel and some very deep silty pools. Unusual vegetation with water celery, yellow flag on the margin in places and hornwort in some of the still pools. I found lots of shrimp, baetis nymphs, caddis and stone fly. I wouldn't be surprised if there were may fly, given the silty bottom in places, although, at this altitude, they might show later than elsewhere in the catchment. A few olive uprights were about but nothing rising, so I went prospecting with a Tan Klinkhammer. I am sure there must be some bigger fish; doubtless a cannibal trout will surprise somebody sooner or later. A delightful day in a very pretty valley.

All fish took olive dry, and black f- fly. lost a proper clunker which was attached to tanago rod for 5-10 minutes and at the net spat hook, easily a pound and quarter. Found the tanago rod very useful today with limited backcast on fly rod.

Last minute booking it was 11am before on the water. Arrival coincided with the start of a hatch of olives and some March Browns. The fish responded and rose vigorously. Took 9 quality fish .75 to 2.25 lbs on hares ear cdc shuttlecock in an hour and a quarter before the hatch and rise faded. After lunch it was a matter of hunting the odd 'oncer' rising here and there. A quality day on a grand stretch of river.

A warm sunny day which became cloudier as the day went on. The river was relatively low and clear with masses of gnats above the water and small hatches of olives in the late morning and early afternoon. 14 trout caught mostly 6 inches and below. 9 trout caught nymping with goldbead nymphs, 1 on a tiny nymph fished under a Klinkhammer and 4 on a CDC caddis dry fly.

Fished late on, as I had made the trip, but the river was still quite thick although around 1' 6" so not massively high. Fantastic hatch of fly which eventually got the trout going.
