It had rained in Builth overnight but the river was hardly affected, slight colour. Remained sunny for rest of day with cold wind. A good hatch of sandy coloured caddis in the afternoon provoked some rising fish. 4 grayling caught, best 1 1/2 lb. on hairy red tag. Heavy showers moved back by 4 pm. There was 1 angler on the opposite bank trotting bait down the head of pool where I was fishing. I presume he was fishing Lake hotel water. Used my pruning saw to good effect in places!

Fished from 10am - 4pm, nothing doing until 1pm then a feisty 12" Grayling on a nymph but must have spooked the rest of the shoal. Moved on and had a beautiful 18" Trout on a 14 Iron Blue. Sun came out and flies and fish everywhere but couldn't tempt any more.

3 nice Chub and 4 good Barbel to 9lb 14oz to one rod after a biteless afternoon of trotting, switching to proper Barbel gear into dusk. The other rods had nil bites bar one which lost a big fish and one landed a Chub of 3lb. Everybody fishing the top part of the fishery in high Summer conditions and low levels, all using pellets. My pals were more than pleased for me!

Nil salmon - low water, very bright. Several small trout from bridge pool and the flats and a grayling of 1.5lb.
Salmon seen in Rectory pool 10 mins before I had to leave but showed no interest in the short time I fished it!!
Many thanks.

A superb day. Started off fishing the duo N.Z. style and was in to fish straight away. Hooked a couple of grayling on the small beaded H.E but noticed several fish coming up to the small Klink and turning away ay the last minute. I soon realised that the nymph was impeding presentation and so off it came with instant results! Both trout (mainly in the morning - best 16") and grayling (best 17") came to the dry throughout the day and into the late afternoon / evening. I ended up with 15 - 20 grayling and 7 or 8 trout. Did unfortunately see two goosanders and a couple of the grayling showed signs of stab marks.

Area:Upper Wye
Beat:Abernant
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
Conditions: Cool (9-12/14 degress C), light breeze, with intermittent downstream wind throughout the day until 15:00, mostly bright and sunny with a few short downpours and then rather calm from 16:00 to 18:00 (main hatch of Yellow May, see below). River clear and very beautiful.
Catch: 19 grayling and six trout. Most grayling around the 3/4lb to 1lb mark with one strong fish to 2lb. Trout mostly 10” to 11“, one to 12”. A few WBT parr. Fish taken throughout the beat, excluding the Stone Catch. Morning fish on a two fly upstream nymph cast (gold head GRHE (18) and heavier nymph (various; 14 to 12), all taking the smaller fly; and a few on the dry Adams (14). All afternoon fish on Adams /CDC variant (16/14). Very positive takes, the fly matching (in size) a nice hatch of Yellow May (I think). Various (smaller) upwinged flies hatching (but in smaller numbers). All fish in pristine condition, and exceedingly lively. All quickly and safely returned.
Pollution: quite a few golf balls (removed), these also on Ty-Newdd.
Other: One dead roach seen in Edw Pool. A large salmon resting at the bottom of the Edw Pool.
A wonderful days fishing. Many thanks to the WUF for two lovely days fishing. Keep up the excellent work.
