All 4 of us decided to fish the top end of the fishery near to the Waterworks for 3 reasons:
1. We were carrying quite a lot of equipment( Big mistake)!! The problems of transporting it through quite wild overgrown tracks and over a fence with a style into the wood was simply not an option on a very warm day.
2. One of our party had recently had knee replacements.
3. The second parking option at the big tree midway along the main road verge is simply that, a verge "very tight for our transit van" and extremely exposed to passing traffic we didn't feel comfortable leaving our vehicle there all day (Security concern).
Don the owner was very helpful and full of information spending a lot of time explaining the swims to each of us individually and a wealth of knowledge he has too, so a Big Thank you to Don. Unfortunately the fish weren't interested and the fishing didn't live up to expectation. Bright sun and no colour in the river didn't help.
I fished the bay swim and it looked great. Started off targeting the far bank and mid river feeding 4mm halibut pellets through an open ended feeder and 8mm pellet on a hair in various combinations of short and long hairs, tails, hooks and size of pellet. I only had 2 bites all day, both were savage takes and almost certainly Barbel. They both took me into abrasive rocks on the bottom which instantly broke my 15lb braided hook lengths.
I then went on to lose 4 more feeders in a snag about 30 yards down stream 1/3 of the way across. I had no more bites and ended up with a blank. My mate A fished the new swim next to me upstream. He managed to catch 2 Barbel around 8lb and 3 Chub about 4lb. D fished the first swim and didn't get a bite all day.
T I believe fished the Single Alder swim and managed a Barbel in excess of 8lb and 3 Chub. All four of us were very disappointed in the lack of bites but did enjoy the location and scenery. On a different day things may have been completely different. I personally would not fish the Bay peg again, (I couldn't afford to)! We all feel we should have travelled light and fished the wood beat pegs. We shall put this trip down to experience and learn from it.

Started well by leaving my selection of wets & bugs on the kitchen table, so my dries with 4 or 5 GH nymphs would just have to manage in the wind. 3wbt to 16ins, 8 grayling to 19ins. The GHHE salvaged the day.

Bit of a tough day. We both had a couple of barbel but the downstream wind of 25 mph didnt help much. I find this beat very peggy and one where if you get fish you need to invest time and effort to maximise results. Sadly we didn't really fish it that well and the results showed. As always its great to be on the Wye. Thanks to WUF.

Fished the same beat on Thursday 13th, caught two grayling on GRHE fairly small appprox 9". Saw a kamikaze sheep walk of the bank onto the rocks below (not a nice vision) not a soul around. Rather a walk from the parking area to the river and lost the end of my rod on way back which is a bit annoying. Fished again the same beat with instructor Chris Price and caught four grayling in a few hours, well worth getting an instructor as advised by Dai at the Foundation as I generally only fish in still water lakes, the biggest was around 1 and half pound.
Kilsby B&B can thoroughly recommend although cannot get phone signal or web access due to signal but sometimes it's better not to have it!!! Can't wait to get back to Wales now I am fully experienced in river fishing!!

My first visit to any WUF water and a very successful one. Directions to the fishery were great and luckily I seemed to be the only angler present that day. Arriving at 1pm and having read the catch reports here, I'd already made my mind up to fish the Powerlines swim. To begin with I fished a groundbait feeder with hair-rigged corn in to the middle of the river (as I'd taken note of the "tackle graveyard" comments previously posted). I was biteless for an hour or so and around this point I made a bit of a hash of a cast, which ended up only going about a third of the way out. A lucky mistake on my part because five minutes later I was attached to the first barbel of the day, which I landed at 6.12lbs. Nine further barbel followed (all from the same spot) and three were lost. Sweetcorn and two different sizes of hair-rigged soft pellets all caught fish. In fact, I would reccomend switching hookbaits regualrly as this often seemed to bring a bite. Didn't try meat as I never seemed to have enough time to get the tin open! However, I didn't really have any issues with tackle loss? Anyway, a real red-letter day - my heartfelt thanks to all at WUF for making this possible, the entire process (booking, directions etc) was excellent.

1 x 10" grayling caught (and returned) on a size 16 klinkhammer. A westerly gusting wind made casting conditions tricky, and reduced the number of fish rising. But a terrific beat with some lovely water.

River very low and clear coupled with a hot, bright day meant we struggled!! Fished all the swims using a variety of methods and baits, result - 1 chubb. We never sighted or saw signs of barbel, very disappointing.

Another bright clear day with the river still low and clear. However we were catching fish within seconds of casting with 3 barbel coming to my rod in the first 3 casts but as always after an astonishing start things slowed down and we ended the day with a total of 7 barbel and 6 chub - (best fish at over 8lb). All fish came to either meat or pellet.

Wonderful day, we had fished these beats during the 90's so quite a nostalgic trip! and my husband remembers meeting Mr Pashley Just one point the turning to the gate is 2.3 miles from the Prince of Wales pub ata little triangle in the road.
