The directions to fish frome the A40 bank were very poor the correct lay bye was hard to find so we gave up so and fished from the Ross bank. The bank was very steep and the water very hard to access and really this beat has is only for the fit and agile angler. However once in the river the fishing was good and the river looked and felt right. I tried a fly for the morning with no success. At lunch time was sat on the bank in amongst the bushes and saw a decent fish rise in the pylon pool, cast at it with a red flying c and it took first cas. This fish was a superb 18 pound bar of silver that fought for 20 mins before being safley landed. Fatastic fun. At 3pm the same flying c accounted for another 10lbs fish in the same pool. Despite the awkward access to the water throughout, what an amazing day out. Thanks very much to the Wye and Usk Foundation.

Both rods fished below the orchard and caught 5 barbel between 5 and 8 pounds, 3 chub, two of 4 pounds and one of 3 pounds, and one trout of approx 1 pound. The barbel, one chub & trout were caught on luncheon meat, and the other two chub on sweetcorn. All fish were in very good condition as was the river.

Fished about two thirds of the way down the beat and found access to the waters edge quite difficult except from a couple of places due to the high banks. River fairly low and we didn't have a single bite until the evening when we caught one 5lb 2oz barbel on luncheon meat.

Very over grown access, but good butterfly habitat! And spooked a couple of Deer which proceeded to jump springbok like across the wheat field! Nil return but I cannot blame the conditions!

Two trout to hand, 5in and 10in, both to nymph fished on a duo. River was in perfect condition when we arrived, however we had only got 200yds up the beat when the water coloured up and started rising rapidly, so we let discretion take the better part of valour and came off the river. A real shame, because it was shaping up to be the prettiest beat we've fished this week.

Another lovely beat, albeit fairly short in distance. We found 2 swims on the left hand bank where the faster water merged into back eddys which looked ideal. A 2lb chub followed by a 1lb plus eel was caught by J A early on using meat as bait, but as it turned out that was it for the day. A L managed a 6lb 12oz Barbel, and two 3lb plus chub afer lunch on single elipse and halibut pellet, but an enjoyable day nonetheless.

Arrived at 6.30pm to an unexpected mayfly hatch and, of course, with no mayfly immitations! Luckily there were also plenty of sedge and olives of various descriptions although not many fish rising. The water level was up a bit, with some colour to it.
Ended at around 9.30pm with several wild browns, three of which were over 1lb giving a terrific fight on a 3-weight. All were taken on a flash-back nymph fished NZ style, mostly from the faster water.
