Fished 3 - 7:30 p.m on mainly dry but cool and overcast day. Nice golden trout of ca. 3/4 pound caught early on using pale watery type (light yellow-bodied dry fly) in riffled area just below island. Lovely fishing and am keen to return.

Very misty early on, I expected the mist to burn off but it never really went. I had a dozen fish, nothing over half pound mark. Mostly caught on golden olive bumble. A fine spot.

Overcast, cool, drizzly with steady south east breeze. Started fishing at 1pm at end of 3rd meadow, not much hatching, few fish rising. Caught 2 trout on nymphs fished deep. Fished up to rapids then returned to bottom of beat, caught 1 shad on stickfly - about 1 3/4 lbs. Intermittent rises but no persistent feeders. 1 grayling of 10 inches in fast water to walkers sedge. Total 2 trout, 1 shad, 1 grayling, 1 dead lamprey. Not many fish but very interesting day.

5 trout - 2 on a Klinkhammer and 3 on goldhead hares ear - all returned; nothing bigger than 1/2 pound. With a few fish rising started the day (a miserable one weather wise) with an Adams. After no offers changed to NZ style with a nymph fished under a Klinkhammer. Two fish came quickly to the Klinkhammer so I changed to fishing that on its own but without further success. I have it on good authority that the Klinhammer worked NZ style due to the weight on the nymph making it sit in the surface film (emerger style) rather than on it (the eternal fascination of trout fishing). 3 more fish in the afternoon all to nymphs fished bottom to mid water. Very interesting beat and easy to fish but caught the Usk in one of her more dour moods and the change in weather and low pressure did not help.

Great river and good day fishing. Fished dry flies all day with no success. Would come back and try again though!

Woke up at 4.30am thinking about the days fishing ahead and couldn't get back to sleep. Picked up my fishing buddy at 6am and managed to get fishing by 7am. We wanted to get to the pub for some lunch so started off at a reasonable pace (especially when the bull in the first field started looking at me with evil eyes). After 20 mins of fishing I wanted to look at how my nymph was looking in the water and was surprised to see a beautiful brown trout totter up to the fly and swallow it up right in front of me. That was the first of seven for me and my fishing buddy caught seven too all of which between 6" an 14". Many more managed to wriggle off the barbless hooks. In the morning we fished mostly mayfly nymph and moved to dry mayfly when the hatch started (about 2pm).
Lovely river with loads of trout and a great pub at the end. You can sit outside the pub on a bench with a pint and watch trout feeding in the clear water. Fantastic.
