As you know we are at the mercy of the weather in September - feast or famine! Turned up to fish Abernant for a long awaited end of season trip only to find the Wye roaring through the valley like chocolate soup from heavy overnight rain.

Made my way about half a mile up the road to fish one of my favourite streams, the Edw. Whilst this was also pretty high and coloured I decided to give it a go.

Managed to winkle out 6wbt, 5" to 7" and best about 9",all fell to spiders (usual suspects). Then the heavens opened mid afternoon so retreated to my B&B, a warm shower, a couple of pints with dinner and a prayer for clearer overnight skies (had booked Abernant again the next day).

Had 6 grayling (biggest about 12 oz) plus about 5 salmon parr. All fish off the top on a grey bodied klinkhammer. Lovely looking stretch of water in peaceful surroundings.
Very safe parking next to Llanfechan house. Will be back.

A difficult day; 12lb pike first cast which attacked my feeder in Boys Rocks, half hour later a 6-7lb barbel then nothing else from that peg. Be aware this is a difficult, tight peg, very steep and slippery 'path' too. Moved down the woods and found a nice but awkward swim (due to overhead trees) and had a barbel just under 9lb from close in. Both barbel on pellets.

I saw an otter working the middle river/far bank and after that I could not get another bite for the rest of the day! I moved around the few swims on the stretch but could not buy a bite.

A nice day out though, thanks.

Eleven barbel to 7lb plus. Lost a couple of good chub which were brainier than the barbel and went straight into the near bank snag.
Another thoroughly enjoyable day's fishing on the Wye.

Tiny hatch clear water no fish caught but very enjoyable day. Useful to have such a good pub close by.
