The day was quite blustery with heavy showers but river levels were low and clear. The steep banks made access a little tricky in the wet conditions so a great deal of caution was required. The barbel had been elusive according to club anglers fishing the stretch as so it proved on the day. I managed a half a dozen good chub up to 4lb on pellet but the afternoon was ruined by thoughtless canoeists who decided to have a water fight 30yds downstream from me, ending up with all twelve lads in the river for some considerable time. That incident and strong winds forced a finish at 3.30 pm.

Some welcome rain all morning but meant that a lot of stringy weed coming down the river. Had to work hard and cast frequently once the mass of weed overcame the weight of the feeder. Nether the less had 5 nice Barbel and no end of Chub. Nice stretch when more water in it.

Beat:Llwyn On Reservoir

Fishing:Trout (River)

Caught 9 trout using spinner but 8 back. Started off using a float and worm running of about 5ft from the float with no bites whatsoever. So as said then went on to use spinner and could not stop catching all being about 1 to 3lb in weight. One thing to note is the reservoir is very low, make sure you take some proper footwear as I only had trainers on and was slipping every where as it was raining and you cant stop sinking in to the mud were the reservoir is usually to.

Beat:Talybont Reservoir

Fishing:Trout (River)

5 x wild trout 8-16 inches. A rather dispiriting early evening, flat calm for once (very unusual this at Talybont)and drizzling with nothing much seen moving inshore except a single sticklebacker. But there was just half an hour of action at dusk, with the wind now up and raining quite hard; trout then came in close and all took the Bibio variant on the top dropper.

Fished the Island peg and then Wyebank Pool. Four Barbel to 5lb taken at the Wyebank Pool on sweetcorn and pellets plus several Chub to 2lb, also chublets and dace. The Barbel all taken ledgering the chub mixed ledger and long trotting with an avon type float. Lost a couple of bigger Barbel and a Chub (bit rusty this time of year)one at Wyebank and one at Island peg, found a snag just down from the island.
An enjoyable day and my thanks to Rudi for putting me onto fish.

Started around 10.30 just by the fishing hut, water clear and low, caught several chub to 4lb. After lunch moved downstream and started to catch Barbel took 3 to 6lb and lost a big one in the weed. Finished around 6pm would probably have landed more towards dusk.

Firstly, what a beautiful beat! Very secluded and one of the prettiest places I've fished. Water very low and fish very spooky. No fish caught but thoroughly enjoyed just being there. Camped at Aberbran Fawr site (Matthews fruit farm on the Penpont beat - fished it 10th July), very friendly people, £5 per night and right on the river bank - what more could you ask for?!
We will definitely be back when there is more water. WUF service is outstanding - wish I'd found it sooner! Many thanks.
