Fabulous day to finish the season, though the weather was resemblant of a typical summers day! Fish were certainly there, some doing aerial acrobatics but none came to the fly. All frustration was muted by the sheer pleasure of fishing there, can't wait for next season.

Very hot day. 6 Barbel to 10lb 3oz all taken from upper end of fishery on pellet. All in excellent condition but slow to recover before release. Fantastic day on a beautiful beat- thanks to all at WUF.
Would be interested to get some info about the work going on here at present - lots of heavy machinery etc in the field by the lower parking area.
WUF note: Work is being carried out by the National Grid - fishery not affected.

6 trout, 4 of which were over a pound and beautiful examples of Usk trout. After a fruitless morning, afterlunch I started to rise fish on a dry Adams. Unfortunately part way through this purple patch it was time to change beats. I stayed for a while watching the fish rise and when I left the beat was devoid of anglers. So quite frustrating really.

Arrived mid morning, weather very hot and sunny, the river was very low and clear. Spent an hour exploring the river, as previous people have commented many areas are over grown and it's difficult to get to the river.
I fish three different swims through out the day in the field below the orchard. Caught a 6lb 5oz Barbel first cast (on luncheon meat), I then had to wait until mid afternoon before another barbel around 5lb arrived (caught on 10mm boilie). As the sun went down the fish started to feed, I finished up with seven Barbel (best 8lb 12oz) and one chub. I caught fish on meat, boilie and pellet, overall a very enjoyable day.

Bright, very hot but a nice breeze around the middle of the day bringing plenty of leaves off the trees plus, no doubt, accompanying food to titillate Salmonid taste buds (in contrast not many falling leaves at Ty Newydd yesterday)! Not much fly life but some irregularly rising fish on and off during the day. Both rising and non-rising fish were all taken on olive and HE emerger patterns, and on Grayling Steel Blue; 27 grayling and two trout. Lots of grayling in the 13-15" class and L also lost a clonker which put a serious bend in his cane rod and silk line - absolutely gutted! But what a cracking day - let's hope for continued relatively stable weather and more good grayling days this autumn.

Beautiful hot last day of the season. Very windy. 19 dark coloured trout c&r. Plenty of takes on dry black coloured flies, but fish were too fast for us so small nymphs on the drop/slowly retrieved proved more effective.
ACCESS: Track as far as ruins before lake much improved since beginning of year, but from here down to lake not ok for cars.

River low but not as clear as our last visit in August therefore hopes were reasonably high. Misplaced optimism I'm afraid as the day proved to be very tough indeed. We fished the top & bottom of the beat extensively with a range of baits (including maggot) but could only tempt 2 barbel & 3 chub between us.

Despite hoards of canoeists and some of the hottest days of the year the barbel fed well and over a day and a half we banked around 28 barbel, most in the 2 - 5lb range but a handful were in the 8lb bracket. Several chub up to around 4lb were also caught. Big feeders filled with scalded pellet doing the job, with bites sometimes coming 'on the drop'.
