Area:Usk

Beat:Cilwych

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:1

It was my first ever visit to Cilwych today and I had hoped that the cold east wind was finally going to give us a miss, but there was still some freshness in the air that probably kept any trout in the depths and I hardly saw any fish move at all. Never mind though, as the scenery at this beat is magnificent and it was good to feel the sun on my face, even though the river was pretty close to normal summer levels.
Your directions were very clear, but I was a little surprised at how difficult the upper reaches of this beat were to access. Fortunately, I am still reasonably fit and agile and therefore lived to tell the tale.
Better luck next time...

Beat:Ty Newydd

Fishing:All Species (in season)

No. of Anglers:6

Fished Ty-Newydd with six others. I managed three grayling and a trout. Mr Game had two grayling but the others all failed to catch. None of those who blanked had actually visited the water before but they were not put off by their lack of success and to a man commented on the superb scenery and vowed to return when the weather warms up a bit!

Beat:Lyepole

Fishing:Trout (River)

River very low and clear. I started with wets and spiders my friend streamer. Then we tried nymphs. Despite 7 hours effort no trout were caught. There were no sign of life apart from a few grayling we caught.

Area:Monnow

Beat:Skenfrith

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:1

Two small grayling and one small trout. All caught on a size 14 tungsten beaded black possum nymph. Very cold with very few fish around unless they were hiding in the deep pools. Don't expect a hearty large bowl of soup at the Bell as it is tasty but small portions available - great beer though.

Area:Lugg & Arrow

Beat:Lyepole

Fishing:Winter Grayling

Caught 8 fish 6 grayling and 2 trout, spooked a cormarant!
That was a first. All fish returned to fight another day.
A rare day for me in that the weather was reasonable no trees bent double or white horses on the water :-)it was my
first visit to this beat and I was quite impressed. Caught on ptn and hares ear nymphs largest fish was 38cm. All was going so well I decided to stop for a coffee at mcdonalds (good latte ) despite my car having 2 cup holders i held the cup between my knees to add suger you can guess the rest! A soggy ride home and no drink.

Beat:R43 The Dore, Chanstone Court

Fishing:All Species (in season)

No. of Anglers:2

Fished the Chanstone Court stretch of the Dore with Mr R Game. He caught two trout of approx 10 inches plus a grayling which was slightly smaller. I had two trout of about the same size. All fish returned. Lovely little stretch but far better access to the river is required. If you didn't tear your waders getting over the barbed wire fencing then you certainly caught them in the mass of brambles that have overun the bankside.

Beat:White House

Fishing:Coarse

Very cold and frosty overnight and with the river low and clear we didn't expect much action. In fact between the two of us we didn't have a bite all day despite moving swims and trying light lines and small baits. Roll on the warmer days of summer!

Beat:

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:2

None caught, none seen but water was clear. Cold day with good frost in morning. Lovely looking river especially the upper beat. Will return.
Take care with parking, owner of house would prefer that we don't park under the Yew, but good natured and no problems.
