Blank. I had planned to trot maggot for grayling, but when I got to my local tackle shop for bait, they had closed. "What's the point being open?" the proprietor said later. "Nobody goes fishing in this weather." A self-fulfilling prophecy if ever I heard one. So I went down with fly rod and lobbed tungsten bugs into a muddy current without result until it began to snow again. I really do think its about time spring arrived.

Fishing:All Species (in season)

Earlier today I was fishing near Ross on Wye for pike. It was to my suprise after a screaming run and a hard battle to find a sea trout in the landing net. The fish was estimated around 7lb although I didn't weigh it as i wanted to get it back to the water as quickly as possible. Please email me if you would like any photographs of the fish. Thanks

I blanked but my brother managed a 3.5 lb chub and a bonus 6lb salmon (kelt). Both were taken on double maggot. The chub fell to feeder tactics but the salmon took trotted maggot and gave a good account of itself on a 18 hook and 3lb hook length.

22nd February, Wye at Llyn Em: Blank. Lowish and clear water and I made sure I knew where the grayling would be...but they weren't. No contact at all and desperately cold.

Rod 1, Rob J, trotting am, feeder pm, had a dozen trout and seven grayling.
Rod 2, Jem C, trotting had 9 trout and 1 grayling. Also fished the Czech Nymph rod and lost a big grayling but had a trout on it.
Rod 3, Ash T, trotting had many trout and a half a dozen grayling
Rod 4, Warren H, Trotting had 2 trout. Had a go for pike pm, blanked.

All fish were mint condition and found in the upper section of the beat. Long walks, but beautiful ones.

Were snowed off in Jan and found the Wye Usk Foundation very easy to deal with, as always, and re booking was no hassle.

Thank you for having us again, will be back in Nov 10.
