Beat:R37 Middle Escley
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
7 x trout 6-9 inches. Tough fishing and didn't manage to fool any of the larger ones. While our main rivers have come up in flood, the Escley valley seems to have had little or no rain and the brook is still on low summer level, a chain of clear still pools. Is there some special W Herefordshire micro-climate on the rain shadow side of the Black Mountains?

Beat:Doldowlod
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
Beautiful stretch of river and plenty of water which was surprisingly clear given the recent rain. Didn't see many fish however and only managed a grayling of just over a pound. I had difficulty with the path on the eastern bank. It seemed to disappear halfway up and had to resort to wading up the river. Loved every minute and will be back but want to know what I'm doing wrong?

It was a very interesting beat. There were a lot of fishing points. I caught 3 wild brown trouts with Elk Hare Caddis and they were safely returned. My friends also caught several wild brown trouts. I would like to visit Fenni Fach again.

Beat:Foy Bridge
Fishing:Coarse
No. of Anglers:2
Found this beat quite hard to find (mybe my navagation skills) but the road to it was very poor only just wide enough to get 1 car down all this said the beat was pleasant when we got there. There were not many fishable swims on the left bank due to heavy growth on the banks. The right bank was more accessable but a longer walk the water is very shallow but if you can find a bit of deeper water or some cover you can find the fish. I had 5 chub upto just over 4lb and lost a very good barbel and my fishing partner had 2 small barbel 2 to 3lb and 3 chub. We fished from 5pm till 9pm which was probably the best time of day for this beat I feel.

Another early Saturday start found K.B and myself on the road towards White House for a return trip hoping to find the river in better condition than a month previous. Arriving around 7.30am we were pleased to find that the river was up compared to are last visit and carrying some colour. Trying likely looking swims and giving them a couple of hours before moving on showed that the day was not going to be one of the best we have had on the river and when in the early afternoon the opposite bank was the venue for a well attended match this did result in the number of swims available to fish being reduced. By the end of the day I think the catch was down due to the angling pressure from the other bank. Sunday was another early start and with Middle Hill court the venue hopes were up for a better days fishing. Having read previous catch reports we fished the areas that had done well and indeed the fishing was much improved on the day before with both of us getting amongst some nice Barbel with the average weight up on White House. Over the weekend are tally for Barbel reached 40 fish to a top weight of 8lb 13oz.
The only concerning thing that I have to report is that nearly every Barbel and all of the couple of Chub that we caught had Argulus or the Common fish louse on them. I don't pretend to be a marine biologist but having checked on the enter-net I strongly belive that this is what they are. I don't believe there is much anyone can do to eradicate this crustacean but we took great care in removing every one from the fish we caught, I really do hope that this is not going to affect the fish in the amazing river.
Many thanks to the WUF. Top job done by all involved.

Beat:Abernant
Fishing:Salmon
No. of Anglers:1
Much to my surprise 1 fish @ c.3-4 lbs. I am pretty certain that this was a sea trout due to its' square tail. Anyway fish returned. Method spinner @ tail of Lady Alexander's catch.
Conditions good with a lot of good sized trout (1/2 - 1lb) about - some caught and looking as if they have been stocked?
Foundation service really good with e-mail booking easy and web cams enabling some assessment of water before "just turning up in hope".

Beat:The Breconshire Fishery
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:2
3 wild brown trout to 8" on #20 klink.
First visit to this beat. Fished from 2pm onwards. River in good condition with some colour after the rain. Most productive areas were the flat glides where casting to rising fish produced many missed takes. Good fish were on the feed but always out of casting range, being tight up against opposite bank. Riffles were very unproductive with nymphs.

Beat:Skenfrith
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
This beat rarely disappoints, but unfortunately this was one of those rare occasions when it did.
Arrived about 4pm not expecting much to happen until later , unfortunately sun came out about 6 ish which due to the westerly aspect of the river means in shines right down the length of it, killing any chances of fishing.
Decided to pop into the Bell for a pint and then walked back down to the bottom end to await the evening rise.
Conditions were perfect, warm, very still, hatches of great variety and quantity, think I even saw some mayflies, but unfortunately the fish just weren’t interested.
