7 x Brown Trout up 2lbs (grey wulff, light cahill)
1 x out of season Grayling 2lbs (PTN)

A slow start at first but picked up significantly in the late afternoon, early evening. A healthy hatch of Mayfly from 5pm onwards with rising fish until dusk. Top part of the beat fished particularly well, not so good further downstream.

Returned to this stretch as there was so much of it I didn’t try on previous visit. Fished a caddis nymph at close range and managed three small trout and an 11 inch grayling within the first 45 minutes. Unfortunately, despite this promising start, I had to pack up and leave due to a family crisis. Must remember not to carry a mobile phone when fishing!

This is a spectacular Usk tributary. I fished it from 9-12 on sunday morning, a hot sunny day. my little 5 foot 2 weight Glass rod was perfect for this little stream flowing through woods.

Initially I targeted likely spots with imitations of the insects I saw the day before on the Usk (caddis, yellow mays etc) and got a few fish. By 10am a number of fish in each pool were rising to Large Dark olives. I switched over to an appropriate imitation and fished it through the rest of the beat with great results. Biggest fish must have gone 16-17 inches and fought like a bonefish on the 2wt.

The water was pretty low making the pocket water pretty unproductive... focus on the pools.

6 Brown trout (2 around 10-12 inch, 1x8 inch and 3x6 inch.
All caught during evening. Dry flies only (homemeade olive dun and shop bought Wulff). 6ft 6in #4 rod, floating line.
N.B. One of the larger fish was not in very good condition - carried various scars around sides and top of head.

I love fishing in the rain and the morning didn't disappoint. For a while it was enough just to stand amongst the stream of mayflower petals mingled with bubbles big as sheeps eyes.

I came to fish though and after attaching a klinkhammer skipped through the beat with the intention of a more thorough examination once the weather dried up and helped myself to half a dozen rose spotted delights.

After lunch, The Worm. Following a short bovine evading sprint, I was soon pushing my way along the wonderfully overgrown course of this little brook and, as I looked through the fly box with the rod held in the crook of my arm, I had my first offer from a Worm trout! I'll let you decide if it counts. A handful of its comrades soon followed, the sun came out, and so did the mayflies. Time to knock on the Dore again. (apologies)

Now, I'm still serving my apprenticeship and this was my first proper mayfly hatch. To me they were like fairies, but the trout had seen it all before and set about the slaughter with cavalier enthusiasm.

I tied on the 'half a chicken on a hook' which had been languishing in the box and flicked it above the first in line. The fly immediately disappeared and I quickly brought to hand a fish of fully three inches in length. By the time I got back to the bridge half way up the beat I'd completely lost count of the number of fish taken and felt that I had exacted some little revenge on behalf of the fairies. Peering upstream of the car, the trout were clearly still intent on the destruction of the mayfly race, but I'd had enough of battle for one day and floated off back to Wiltshire. It had been a typical WUF day.

Intended to fish at Court of Noke, not realising it was booked for an event. Decided to try Eardisland for the first time and managed four fish - two trout and a grayling of between 2 and 6 ounces and a trout of about 10 ounces. Smaller ones on a gold head caddis nymph. Switched to dry fly when the Mayflies began appearing, around 1pm, and caught the larger one on a White Wullf. A fun day, despite the rain, on a nice looking stretch of water.

I fished Llangoed last Sat; it was a day of heavy showers. Fish showed in the glides near the water works from early morning onwards rising to yellow-coloured, medium sized upwing flies. A couple took the nymph; also had some small fish on nymphs NZ style on a run down from the water works. Best trout – a pound and a bit - was taken Czech style in the rapids below the Llangoed (sp) pool. I came across the rapids late and would like to have spent more time fishing them. Streams were thin at the top of the beat. It was a fun day, despite a leaking wader!

Beautiful stretch of water and very scenic, the water was low and clear with salmon parr and browns topping most of the day but taking very small flies. DC caught 4 browns around 6-9 inches, DB 6 browns & 2 salmon parr, GC one nice brown about 1.25lbs. All fish returned.

5 brown trout largest one a beautiful fish of about 2lbs 8 oz. 3 fish between 1 and 1lb 8 oz. All returned. 3 taken on olive goldhead nymph cast to sporadically rising trout. 2 taken on dry light olive. A difficult downstream wind and no obviously significant hatch. Started fishing around 10 am finished 7pm. Most activity in the first 3 hours. Met owner of beat Mr Lloyd - very helpful and informative. Easy access to this beat with not particularly difficult wading. A lovely day all round.

7 Brown Trout, all over 3/4 lb, the largest 2.5lb... taken on spider patterns and a bead head pheasant tail fished upstream, dead drfit through the deep gutters at the top end of the beat.
