Beat:R50 - Gryne Fawr
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
Nothing caught. Saw only a small handful of fish rising, only one of which was of decent size. Water level very low for the most part. The brochure recommends a 7 to 8 ft rod for this beat. I fished in the morning with an 8 ft rod and found my line caught in trees a little too often for my liking. I fished the beat again in the afternoon with a 6ft6in rod. This was much more practicable, particularly for casting in tight corners and confined spaces, characteristics of this beat which were accentuated by the low water level.

Dull day with few fish rising. Mayfly hatch from 5pm when I was leaving. Since I failed to rise much, despite many fly changes, resorted to Greenwell's Glory fished wet and caught 7 BT, best 3/4lb, and lost a few.

Beat:Glanusk Estate Fishery
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:3
1 fish each in the morning then some good sport in evening to skated sedge in the faster sections of the lower beat. Not a lot happening in sweltering heat and low water. Best fish around 16”

Beat:Clettwr
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
12 x trout 6-12 inches on dries. This beat is exactly what it says on the tin: very challenging wading and climbing. Being young at heart is not quite enough in itself - I managed to fall in big-style half way up! But lovely fishing in a wild and beautiful gorge and the trout get bigger as you ascend.

Beat:Skenfrith
Fishing:Trout (River)

River a bit low and the sun too high but there were hatches of fly all day including Mayflies. The trout weren't that interested in the hot sun though. I found a few in the shadows and had 2 at 12" on my rod marker, 1 at 10" and a smaller one. I also lost a slightly bigger fish which took my fly. Unfortunately I had to leave before the sun relented but there was sign of a few more rising at 6.00 when I left. Excellent and long lunch at the Bell made it a very enjoyable day.
