The river level was up with water flowing over the croy on arrival, levels dropped during the session and the croy was dry by mid-afternoon. Water was very coloured and pushing through as you’d imagine. All fish were caught on a mixture of boilies and meat, the “other fish” was an eel. Largest barbel was 7lb 9oz and chub to 4lb 8oz. Another very enjoyable day on the Wye in a lovely quiet tranquil setting.

Great day's fishing. Bites from 10am to 10pm. Fished the bottom pool on the edge of the slack. Pellets and feeder got bites straight away. Switched to float fished meat in the afternoon and caught 1 barbel and 1 chub but also lost 4 barbel to hook pulls.
Lost 7 in total so should have been a much better day!

warm mostly overcast day, river coloured, 2 foot up from the weekend and 16 degrees. Lovely barbel conditions but this is the best chub stretch on the list and not many barbel have come out this season as testified by our chat with Colin the bailiff.
The chub swims down the bottom were a little too pacey to fish the float effectively (for me at any rate) so a few on the feeder down there before moving back up, so we ended up catching throughout the length of the beat. GB feeder and boillies or small combination baits best. All chub between 2 and 3, the 3 barbel (one each) were 1, 3 and 5. So a lovely day but not the best beat we could have fished under the conditions - we fished the swims recommended by Colin for the barbel but again only Chub.

Very different conditions to the previous day. We started later in the day and the fishing was slightly slower. I focussed on trying to catch a barbel on the float which was challenging with the amount of water still pushing through but I managed it in the end.

A most enjoyable first visit to Abercynrig. We booked salmon rods as a hedge against the rain rather than real expectation of a fish. The river was at about 10" on the Brecon gauge when we arrived and looked in perfect condition. Karen opened with a fabulous 1.5lb trout on a small duo-fished killer bug. I took a switch rod and optimistically tried likely looking runs with small salmon flies, catching another 1.5lb trout from bottom pool. Karen's other trout came to a cdc emerger and my other two to cdc dries. Not much surface activity seen during the day but clearly a good number of fish there. Frustratingly, I hooked what I was sure was a big trout on a small Munro variant in the Cynrig pool, bullied it towards me for a quick release and then realised it was a coloured hen grilse of about 4-5lbs just as the hook came free . . . . I'll be more careful next time. Will definitely return.

The river has benefited from recent rains, still holding a bit of water with a tint of colour. Perfect for nymphing. 20 fish between 2 of us in a late afternoon session fishing from just below the bridge up to the end of beat. The beat is huge and there are some fantastic pools here. Fish to 1.5lb all in great condition. Access and parking in the farm yard is good.
