Gauge at 2’3 and stayed at that height all day. Coloured but fishable.
Another blank with the double hander.

The river was still high at 1ft 2ins on the web cam. The cold NE wind blowing downstream and bright sun didn’t help. I saw only a few large Dark Olives hatching after noon and not a single trout rose. All five trout were caught on a deeply fished size 14 olive nymph. They were taken on the flats with no takes in faster streams - presumably because there were no hatches there.

Great day at the brook; 17 trout between 7”-11”. All nymphing.
Gave a river trout fishing a go earlier this year, due to reservoir trout being unexpectedly slow. What a difference the brook looked in early Spring, compared to Summer. There were plenty of flow (running clear though) and not much overgrown trees. There was more room for casting, even with a 7ft rod. Getting in and out of the river was also a lot easier with clearer bankside.
Water temperature was 10deg (air temperature being13 deg). Sparse hatch happened around mid-day but only saw 1 rise late-pm. So mainly fished a single weighted nymph. Flow was strong in places but there were fish in there, as well as the flat glide. To catch, the fly needed to have the right weight to go down, but not too heavy to hang-up on the bottom. It is imperative to keep swapping among 2mm, 2.5mm, 3.mm and 3.5mm tungsten bead of the same pattern throughout the day. Four fish came downstream of the bridge, the rest were from half-way up the bridge toward the end. Lost one good fish that jumped and spat the hook, around 13”. So, there was at least a good fish in there, waiting for a lucky angler. Good day overall!
