River was still fairly high and wading was difficult so I predominantly nymphed the pools close to the bank. I tried swinging a few spiders but to no avail, so ended up just spending the day indicator nymphing and successfully catching and releasing three small trout on an orange hotspot hares ear. I’ve just started tying my own flies so this was extremely satisfying. Lost a whopper on a yellow tag black sparkle body nymph- took me into the rapids and shook the hook out. All in all a lovely day - small hatch occurring but nothing rising. Will be back in the summer.

First outing of the season. We found the river level manageable and the water clear. The North Westerly wind felt cold, but thankfully the sun was out and kept us warm. We noticed just a few olives hatching in the early afternoon but I did not see any rises. My fishing friend was fortunate to locate two rising fish but did not manage to deceive them. I persevered with spiders, across and down and managed 3 fish and lost another one. Just after 3pm there was a hatch of March Browns for about 20 minutes. We saw 5 or 6 fish move and managed to get one to rise but did not connect.

Lovely day to be out.

I covered a salmon that showed below the bridge . On the second cast it took . After a very strong, nerve racking fight I managed to net a pristine hen fish of around 15-16 lbs . Whilst holding this hen fish , in the water, prior to release , another salmon showed . I didn’t manage to get this one .
I also caught a cracking trout on the salmon rod .

Conditions were against us from the off, very strong winds almost gale force winds at times and very heavy rain showers on and off with hail stones and sleet at times.
Temperature was 3 degrees at 10am.
Fished ledger at 20mts 15mts 10mts and short at 5mts, with different hook lengths at each distance.
Not a single nibble ( only nibble was on a sarnie ) on worm, tried a spinner for 20 mins same result nowt.
But it was a nice couple of hours out with my 8 year old grandson.
