Another lovely day at Usk reservoir one Rainbow trout in lovely condition caught on worm, it was too warm and bright for fishing (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! ) My partner is a keen environmentalist and she said what a wonderful diverse environment it is at the reservoir, she pointed out 6 beautiful Peacock Blue butterflies, hoverflies, day moths, big bumblebee's (1 saved from a watery grave ) , wasps and lots of fugi on ground and tree to feed many more species, saying if there wasn't this much diversity the environment wouldn't be so beautiful, she thinks it should be included in the catch & return form, and who am I to argue with that! ???? Great day

A beautiful beat. Water height and colour good. Sunshine and cloudy spells. Unfortunately no takes or fish seen.
Note to anglers on this stretch to heed the WUF wading warning and also check their wading boot studs as the bedrock is like ice.

Second day on Craig Llyn this week while on holiday. First visit on Monday was all about the nymphs, as a cold wind put an end to any real hatch - although a few sporadic risers were picked off with dry fly. So returned today in warmer conditions hoping for some dry fly sport. Wow wasn't disappointed. After a few trout and grayling were tempted to an olive emerger, thought the code was cracked. That was until the dry fly flats at the lower end erupted in what can only be described as a true spectacle of rising fish. Literally grayling were rising all around me. The olive was being rejected - a quick scan and scoop of the water revealed a carpet of flying ants. Change of fly and what then unfolded was the finest dry fly fishing I have ever experienced. Number and quality of grayling was unreal - best grayling was 50cm. I must have only covered 250m of the river before I decided to leave them to feed in peace having lost count.
Another quality two days on a favourite beat. Many thanks to the owner and WUF for access.
Ps. Sincere apologies to the owner, as when I sat to have my lunch on Monday the chair I first chose gave way and collapsed under me. Sorry.
5 Trout, 20 Grayling
