Started at the top of the beat and finished at the bottom. Occasional showers through the day and one longer period of rain kept us damp …but happy! The fish always seem to switch on after a shower. Generally there wasnt much surface activity but fish that rose were generally keen to take our flies.

A good mix of year classes amongst the grayling which were up to 19” … trout generally smaller although best 16”. Great fun on one of our favourite beats….

Two anglers, both intent on trotting for Chub and Barbel. Conditions were superb, with good water levels, nicely overcast, and a little rain the day prior to freshen things up after a hot spell. On arrival, we were very frustrated to find that there were only two wadeable swims suitable for trotting with a centrepin. One Barbel caught (~8.5lb) on the first trot down and another hooked but lost later on. No sign of any small/medium chub and no other bites other than the three fish caught (Chub 4lb, eel) and lost. The water level dropped by ~6 inches whilst we were there making the first swim un-trottable. Overall, very disappointed by the lack of opportunity for our preferred method and not sure the beat is worth the £25 day ticket cost whatever method used. There are numerous other venues to sit behind a ledger rod, in equally pleasant settings, at a fraction of the cost. Not somewhere we'd come back to.

3 anglers fished, 1 barbel at 5lbs to corn, all chub to meat plus one 2lb eel to meat. Weather drizzly for best part of day, not much action. Because this stretch is not maintained / lack of available bank swims we were restricted to try different areas.
