Seriously W&U!? Only tackle this section below the bridge if you have Mountain Goat DNA! The “path” down the left bank was highly overgrown and frankly very dangerous under foot. The levels were good but access to the water poor.
Upstream of the bridge the first 200 yards much better access but slippy underfoot - be careful. After this, named salmon pools with limited access again. In my opinion, this is not a viable Grayling fishery.

River looked perfect and tried our usual spots downstream we’ve had success on in the past but could only really catch the odd chub. Nice barbel came late in the day upriver

This was to be a pleasant afternoon session on one of my favourite beats. However, it turned out to be very frustrating, starting with an enormous tackle tangle, despite carefully packing my rod and gear into its sleeve, and ending with the only bite I had at sunset, from a chub which snagged me, losing all my terminal tackle. Ah well......

Two of us fished, and the numbers of fish caught is approximate. Weather unseasonably sunny, and the river carrying a bit of extra water and slightly coloured.

Couldn't avoid the oos trout, one trot through would be a grayling next a trout. Largest grayling was about a pound and half, largest trout just shy of 2lb.

One important thing to note is that he foot bridge is out, so fishing is only available from the left bank. This often means fishing very close to an electric fence, so anglers should be wary of shipping back carbon landing net poles!

What a beautiful day. I thought this beat looked incredible in Winter but on a warm, sunny Autumn day this place is heaven. I trotted red maggot on the bottom half of the beat and thought I'd treat my new 4x4 to a trip down to the church. Parking here was so easy and makes the long slog back to the car at the end of the day a thing of the past!

Just like yesterday trout were first to the bait, some of them a very good size, one male fish of 18" put on an incredible scrap, I thought I'd hooked a small salmon at first! Two small chub made an appearance near the downstream limit.

The day was topped off when on my last cast I landed a beautiful 17½" male Grayling that fought amazingly in the flow. He went 2lb 3oz on the scales and is a new personal best. I was absolutely over the moon with that and it made the 3 hour drive home seem a breeze.

This place really is one of my favourite places on Earth, another wonderful days fishing at Cefnllysgwynne.
