Tough. Conditions seemed pretty good, fished hard into dusk, plenty of small chub (>1lb) around but no barbel bites.

First outing this season and had a great day: 28 trout between 6-11 inches, majority being small. Five trout to Klinkhammer and the rest to nymphing.
Started fishing around 4pm. Water was running clear, with a nice 13 deg. Although the level was higher than the end of last season, it was still quite low. We desperately needed more rain. Tree-wise, the brook was very overgrown and badly needed good trimming. My flies spent more time on the trees than on the water. I was not sure if I should put it down to the overgrown trees or to my own rusty skill over the closed season! On many occasions, I could pitch the fly (bow and arrow casting) to a good looking area. The fish responded instantly, but there was no room to lift the rod to set the hook!
Fishing-wise, very good. Started off with size 14 Klink and induced three rises when there was nothing rising (2 missed and 1 hooked). After 45 mins, switched to nymph and the response was fast and furious; 23 trout to hand. Around 7pm, there were good hatches and the fish started rising. Put the Klink back on and had lots of rises, but only 4 hooked, which confirmed I was a bit rusty over the closed season!
Very good day out (any very cheap too). Thanks to WUF for providing us with the fishing opportunity.
PS> Advice for future visiting anglers. Biting-mosquitoes were very active around the sewage treatment area. Either skip that stretch or bring some insect repellent spray along.
