I fished the South end and had an early fish to a red cruncher. Lovely brownie just under a lb. Sadly that was my only fish although I had a take late on,on a buzzer. I fished nymphs and buzzer all day packed up about 1715. Lovely day and some much welcome advice from friendly local anglers helped. Beautiful venue. Definitely be back.

A bit of apathy set in this morning after checking the Llanstephan gauge, still bit high at 2’5”, but as the river seems to be clearing more quickly now after successive spates, I stirred myself , got in the car, and was fishing shortly after 10.00. I had only been fishing 20 minutes or so when the line went solid and I knew I was into a decent sized springer.
The hen fish, a shade over 36”, and with a noticeable deformity, ( or old injury), on the gill cover, eventually made the net and stayed only briefly to unhook and photo before swimming off strongly after a short rest.
Caught on a small Pearly Tosh tube fished on T14.
As a small bonus, a grayling, pushing 2 1/2 lb took the same fly at the bottom of the beat later on. Where was he when I was trying to catch him in January and February?

Amazing first trip to the Dee, catching one brown and one grayling. Both caught on a small pheasant tail nymph. Caught on the top stretch from river accessed at parking point C. Was an overcast day, rainy at times and the river was running pretty strong.

Great days fishing and an awesome piece of river in matching surroundings. Unfortunately, as there had been consistent rainfall for at least the day before, the river had a strong flow which would have required a better fisherman to attune to; but the fishing itself was enjoyable nonetheless. I fished both the dry and the nymph but no signs of life despite the ever-growing fly life; I can imagine after around 2 weeks of consistent warmer weather and less rain, considering the perfect pockets of river, fishing this river will be extremely enjoyable with potential to catch decent wild brown trout.
I fished with an 8'6 rod but would recommend smaller as the river is mostly under canopy ; but it is certainly not impossible to fish with a 9' as tighter sections can be avoided and there's plenty of river for at least an afternoon's fishing.
I would also recommend taking a smaller car if possible, driving to the beat is quite tight down country lanes and the parking itself for the beat is essentially a passing place, but there were VW vans able to get down the lanes and I saw nobody at all at the parking.
