3 x grayling, 17, 17 and 18 inches, 3 x out of season trout 12-16 inches, trotting. First time on this new beat in a sort of continual mountain mist/drizzle, and I can see it will take some learning. I spent a lot of time working out the access via the little fields at the bottom end - there are no styles and lots of fences so best to zig-zag your way up the river. Steep gradient with lots of fast running shallows, gravel flats and slate ridges and very open - a little like the upper Ithon. Where are the grayling shotts though? I had the impression of not a big head of fish altogether, but a few big ones if you can bump into them.

First time on this beat and had to move around to find the fish. Finally started to catch in the afternoon on meat and lost a barbel due to a hook pull on my final cast. I think this beat would fish well in high water and the swims have been created with this in mind. Compared to some other beats the swims here have been fairly well maintained with steps and ropes, although they are pretty large swims.

It would help if parking was available at the lower end as a long walk with tackle from the parking area at the top. I'm not sure if we even found the lower boundary as we decided that it was just too far to contemplate lugging gear that far down.

Other than that this is a pretty good beat and very remote with a well maintained track that any car could easily cope with.

Low and clear for the time of year the barbel didn't seem to be feeding. The chub kept us entertained particularly in the evening when they started to rise. Casters and cheespaste were the successful baits. A ledgered pellet or boilie was treated with contempt. Great to be back by the Wye! Such a variety of wildlife including a Barn Owl at dusk.

A blank ! But what a beautiful stretch of river - a pleasure just to be out on it. Whatever nymphs I tried were either wrong or cast to the wrong place - my fault and hopefully I will come back.

Caught nothing and at 75 with disabilities every beat was too steep. No-one fault just one of those things
