Well , with some good rain last night and right up to half eight in Herefordshire thought I'd venture back up to the Lugg at Litton and also fish some of the club water ..... fish happy to come up and take a dry.... started with a Para Adams in the shallower streamer water ... good success and also a tiny f fly scored well..... still low here, but very pleasant ... did perhaps half the beat ... a few missed this morning but managed to bring to the net half a dozen, ranging from six to eleven inches in size . A pleasant couple of hours .... I did see two mayflies too !!! Bonus !! There is a few additions across the Stream but its always been a wild one this ....

On the way back , couldn't resist another hour through the town stretch so waders back on six foot two weight in tow and back in the river at quarter to one ..... lots rising and some big big grayling seen too !!! Saw a dozen or so mayflies here ... what a difference a few miles makes........Anyway three savage splashy rises to my Parachute Adams and three to hand here and a few missed !!!! Great fun ...... could have done with another six hours of the wet stuff but still had some fun in a dry quite sunny morning on and off!! Back up to the Lugg again very soon ... spot on !!!

Access to this river is virtually impossible, with landowner fences blocking the way. Gates have been fenced over and barbed wire seems to be the favoured tool applied.
The Trout Inn in Beulah told me that access to the river there has been cut off by the landowner.

I even tried a footpath below Beulah only to find that the post has been removed and, again, barbed wire positioned across the gate.

The usk reservoir shouldn't be known as a trout fishery any longer.... it's impossible to fish for anything other than perch

Couple of hours fishing at either side of midday in bright sunshine, a much warmer day after several days of cool winds, at 20 degrees with lighter winds. Fished the upper half of the beat from the bridge starting at the caravan site. A couple of salmon visible sitting at the base of the Rock pool, and a few large trout spotted also. Not a great deal hatching and very little in the way of a rise, except for a couple of trout (always on the wrong side of the river!) feeding at the Rock pool on terrestrials under the trees. A few trout rose around midday opposite the caravan site and we had a handful of takes on the surface to mayfly imitations, but none connected.

A nice place to fish and it would be even better at a time when there are a few consistently rising fish to cast at - one to try another time. Our first time on this beat - many thanks to the riparian owner for his advice.

A wonderful fish and camp trip to glorious Penpont, a rare, still and very warm day. Huge amount of fly hatching of different types. Morning saw the most action, fish rising in every pool, easily spooked due to low water but with careful wading, possible to sneak up on them. All fish to dries, Adams and olive imitations, ranging from 10 to 16", could and should have had more, the bigger fish throwing the hook as ever. A day close to those flyfishing dreams.

A good day with a huge varied amount of fly life including suplhurs, mayfly, grannom, stoneflies, olives, midge and brook duns. Two 1.5lb Shad were caught on nymphs and safely released. Fish were taken on a mixture of nymphs, small streamers and a lot on dries. DHE and comparaduns in various sizes and colours worked well. The wading was challenging due to the slime and weed on the boulders meaning two of us ended up taking an unplanned swim.
