Couldn't resist coming back for another day here and I was not disappointed. Much the same pattern as last time, a slow start with only a couple of fish showing on the lower section in the morning but in the afternoon things looked up with a shoal of feeding grayling being located. They took the beaded ptn for a while then went off the feed. Further up in a nice long run the final fish of the day was the best, measuring in at about 17" and a good solid one at that. A fabulous way to end the day.

A local stretch of water for me but hadn't fished it . Water conditions not the best for grayling fishing on this day unfortunately no fish caught ,but still a beautiful stretch of water will be back to investigate more.

I’ve been wanting to stand in the river trotting a stick float ever since I started fly fishing and brought myself a pair of waders but have never got round to it until today.
The river was far from ideal being low, clear and icy cold but bites came from the off and we were soon catching Grayling on a regular basis trotting a stick float through the swim using a centre pin and maggots as bait. I had hoped to build the swim steadily through the day but it got too cold after 30-40 minutes wading, so it was out onto the bank for a cup of tea and a warm up before getting back at it. The Grayling seemed to ease off but a few OOS trout made an appearance before the cold got the better of us.
A very enjoyable and productive way to fish in the depths of winter…but roll on spring now!

Grayling were 11” and oos trout was 13”. Other subtle takes were missed or on then off, the feeding window was around 1pm. An Otter working the pool above me plus a few large dark olives coming off put a smile on my face.

Spent a lovely afternoon on this beat with nymphs and was able to find a few willing fish despite chilly temperatures. All fish were caught with tungsten beaded pheasant tail nymphs (orange hot spot is the ticket!) Beautiful stretch of the upper Wye and would love to return during warmer weather. Highly recommend!

Who would have known a change of hat would make such a difference ???? quick couple of hours on the Wye , 7 Grayling and a few OSB’s . Four of the Grayling approaching 40cms , the biggest going a crude 46cms measured against the rod handle , certainly a seasons best, in what has been a difficult year so far
