Arrived to a lovely looking river, but -4 degrees. Fished for chub and caught 4 roving on meat. A good day considering temperature.
On the down side I was sickened to see 6 dead Swans and 1 Canadian geese! The only thing I can think of killing them must be Otters.
FISHING PASSPORT NOTE: If you come across dead waterfowl please report it to Defra as soon as you can on 03459 335577. This was potentially a case of avian flu, which has struck poultry in the Ross area recently.

First time on this beat and below freezing when I arrived but the sum was on it's way up so a good day was in prospect. I fished beaded nymphs under an indicator and had a couple of fish from the tail of a pool at the lower end of the beat. Nothing further until later in the afternoon when another pool towards the top end yielded another 7 grayling including a beautiful specimen that measured 18" and easily my personal best. I'll be going back for sure!
