On the water just before 8am and fished through till lunchtime. Patchy cloud at first, then hot sunshine with the stream predictably low and running gloriously clear. Plenty of evidence of invertebrate life on the riverbed.
I skipped the lowest field with the yurt, and pushed on upstream where I recalled that there were more gullies and pools with depth. Fishing blind, the faster water produced offers from sprat sized fish to a size 14 rough olive, three of which came to hand. And when it joined its cousins in the overhanging branches they found a Greenwell equally interesting.
After an hour I concentrated only on the slower stretches in the top third of the beat. There were very few fish showing to a hatch of pale wateries, so I continued searching out the likely spots as I progressed. I carelessly missed a couple of more significant rises before landing one that pushed 10inches.
By 11am all activity ceased and I never saw another fish. Still the couple of hours that remained were a delight beside the water. A wonderful beat that I feel is underfished. Very many thanks W&U!

Nothing caught but lots of rises after 9pm. Definitely too hot during the day. Wait for the later hatch.

No fish, no bites, great weather. Warm but changeable in the morning and unseasonably hot in the evening.
Spinning using flying Cs, Tobys and anything else I could try from my lure box.
Fished from 6 til 10:30 and 5pm til 9:30pm.
Water was clear with a decent flow.
On arrival I disturbed a couple of herons who were more successful than me. After a few minutes the aerial salmon display started - none interested in the spinners. Lots of activity at the Lugg mouth noted - one huge white/silver salmon leapt vertically 4 foot straight up out of the water just in front of me. I nearly jumped 4 foot myself!
Had some interesting interruptions from aggressive swans and some thirsty Hereford cattle. However, I can’t blame them or even the evening kayak boys for my failure. A gorgeous day by the Wye for my first attempt at salmon fishing.
Excellent service from Alison from the Fishing Passport on the phone. Will definitely try again!
