I was about to go home Tues night , but had a look at the river further up and it didn't seem too bad ( a bit high but not too coloured ) but somehow during the night, even though there wasn't any more rain it had gone really brown ! .I had a go for a couple of hours but to no avail. Did have a near death experience when an oak bough fell 20 feet and landed only 4 feet away from me ! It was 6 ft long and as thick as my leg. I was waist deep in water at the time and luckily it just gave me quite a soaking!

The river looked promising when I arrived as it was warm and there was plenty of fly life. No fish rising though and nothing caught. There was a bit of colour in the water.

Few chub knocks, wanted to fish one of the cribs but couldn't find them, guess they were under the extra water, not my ideal stretch.Had to have three attempts to get back up the hill, sliding back down under full brake at each attempt. T6's don't like it...be warned !!

Arrived at 0715 to find mist rising on a nicely coloured river which was about a foot up from the low levels at the start of the week. Also found I'd left my landing net at home and arrived back at river following a trip into Hereford at 0845, so much for maximising the time before the sun hit the water.
Anyway 2 barbel of 7 and 8 and a small jack of 3 all on 14mm spicy sausage pellets on the GB feeder cheered me up.
I moved to the bottom of the beat at lunchtime but could only add 3 small chub. During the day the river rose another 3 feet making most of the bottom swims tricky with little slower water and the amount of leaves coming through, the best part of a tree came through at one point.
Moved back up at 1800 and had a 9lb barbel and a 3lb chub on the edge of a slack.
Met the lovely helpful Steffen for the first time which would have saved me the trip into Hereford if I'd met him earlier as he said he could have lent me a net but my day may have been different and I was chuffed with the 7, 8 and 9 I had.
He really has done a great job on the swims without detracting from the beat and I wish that other bailiffs would provide a little better safe swim access (accepting SSSI) esp. for us older anglers and I'm still quite spritely! Thanks again to WUF and Steffen.
