A low, green Wye proved to be as tough as it sounds. A barbel was taken first thing along with a decent chub on feeder tactics in the fastest water I could find. The canoes started at about 10am and were constant until about 4pm. All were on the near bank too to avoid the shingle beaches and shallows on the opposite side. However all were courteous and apologetic. However I was trotting by this time so they weren't an issue as I ran the float down between flotillas. I had plenty of chub on trotted meat (between a pound and 3lb) then had a break until early evening. I set up in the successful swim from the mornings feeder fishing and after hiding in the car as a thunder storm rolled over for an hour I started feeder fishing again about 7pm. In the next couple of hours I had 3 more barbel which fought like demons in the fast nearside gulley. Smallest was about 4lb and largest a good 7lber. Happy days and I didn't get struck by lightening which was a bonus.

Well I'm gluton for punishment!!! Opted for jungle tactics this morning early bells , headed for the Monkland beat of the Arrow !!
Well truth be told a big of the Manor Farm beat initially before venturing under the bridge and fishing up it from there and the extreme Leominster side of the river split too !!
I must admit a fun few hours albeit a bit muggy and sweaty avoiding fallen trees et all !!! Good fun and where I could get a cast away some great takes on the dry Parachute Adam's which i stayed on all morning!! And how the hell I came away with the same fly still attached to the 2 pound fluorocarbon I'll never know!!! Lol !!
Some lovely little Arrow fish this morning , in a tally of six to the net ; usual sizes eight to ten inches and savage takes too !!! It's not fished a lot here but like everything in life ; put a bit of effort in and there are some good Fish in here where you can land a dry fly !I did have an absolute donkey on for about ten seconds !!must have been a strong two pound brown or chubb maybe!!! Lovely fight anyway on the two weight rod . . . Oh while doing some kick samples ,there were plenty of bullheads too under the stones, good to see and a sign of a healthy river I'd say too !!
I got out pretty goosed after three hours !! Nice bit of sport . . . Something easier at the weekend me thinks ; like Edw Hergest or the Arrow @ Titley !! Incidentally that doesn't seem the " trendy " Arrow beat to fish this season!! Oh well maybe give it a crack end of the week !Back home and something amber coloured in a pint glass ithink !!! Happy days. . . . .

Conditions good- gentle breeze and nice ripple mostly over cast.
Took til13.00 to find the fish though.
Only fished at the boat area due to gammy leg.
Despite a swarm of canoeists, screaming children, people throwing stones and a comorant (who was very proficient at removing perch) managed 4 nice stockies (plus one perch the cormorant missed!). Lost/missed at least another 10 trout.
Suspect if I was fit enough to move away from all the distractions the fishing would have been better still.
All fish taken about 12 inches down on olive and ginger snatchers.
First day on the water in 3 years, thoroughly enjoyed.

Found it difficult fishing with the Edw in its present shrunken state, but a peaceful couple of hours until the lads' motocross circuit alongside the river fired up in the early evening. Left the din for a bit more peace and quiet at upper Aberedw, where the parking area is currently blocked by timber and brushwood. Let's hope some habitat refreshment arrives
as forecast at the end of the week.
