After all of the years I have been to Wales, this was the best day in terms of catching, 7 caught on a small gold head PTN suspended from a dry fly and the seemed to be getting bigger as the day went, finally saw a few rises around 4pm so switched to a size 16 baby sun fly and cast to the rise, and fortunately rewarded with my biggest wild brown trout ever, around 14”.

River very tricky to get into as very deep as you enter in most places; running quite fast , could not access a stretch by the stream but looked like a very fishy spot!! Showers of rain and very overcast with a splattering of sunshine

Level still high (above 0.8 on Cilmery gauge) and coloured. I fished for a couple of hours but struggled . I'm getting too old for deeper wading. Fish caught on weighted nymphs.

Lovely river, beautiful valley. Worrying lack of inverts under stones and no dippers.

Having been washed off the Wye we opted for something fishable. This is a remote and stunning place to fish. Being so high and so exposed we were beaten up by a cold wind all day bit managed 5 pristine wbt all about 8 inches. In fact, so similar we could have caught the same trout 5 times! All fish taken on a black gold head and bibio and returned safely.

Arrived at 7.30am and was set up and ready to fish by 8am. Weather was great for 30 minutes and then the heaviest rain that I have experienced for some time continued for the next two and a half hours. The river is very high and very coloured which made fishing quite difficult. Unable to cross the river by wading due to fast flow so decided to go to the bridge to cross only to find that it was partially washed away and could not be used.
I am not experienced at river fishing in these conditions and so called it a day at 11am. Other anglers may have been able to catch something but sadly not me.
The river and the location are stunning and I look forward to being able to fish it in more favourable conditions.
