Fishing:Trout (River)

River running fast after heavy rain, caught one nice sized trout on a copper John but failed to get the net under as it was to slippery on the bedrock especially after a knee op!
He got off just before I could grab him. Nothing showing in the pool, rises or fish

First time on the lake, a mixed bag weather wise with sunshine and showers early on followed by persistent rain all afternoon. Nevertheless our patience was reward with 3 carp of 9lb, 10lb (taken of the top on bread) and a superb common of 17lb 2oz taken on corn under the rod tip by the old oak tree. Will be back on a dryer day!!

It was touch and go as to whether the Wye would be fishable today and, although the Erwood gauge was reading 1.7m, the river was dropping and the clarity was improving. We therefore took a chance and forewent requesting a wash-off. I fished rapalas on the lower end of the beat and had two trout. Neither was weighed as I wanted to get them back in the river but one was over 1lb and the second was over 2lb. Many thanks to the beat owners for improving the path to the top end of the beat.

Arrived at lunchtime with the water sitting at 2ft 10’ on the gauge , water was not too bad with visibility sitting around the 3ft mark. Worked my way through the beat from the Rock pool finishing at the tail of the Gravel run where the heavens opened up . Went back to the Rock pool around 17.00 hrs where the colour of the water was now coming in a chocolate colour. Time to pack up , nice afternoon, finishing with 5 good trout taking the tube fly , didn’t expect to see any salmon at that height , none seen .
