I had a chub 2lb at 0900 in the margins using sweetcorn/pellet. A 3lb common carp at 11.00am same bait. Both while it was raining alot. Then I had a 4lb wild carp at 14.30 bit dryer same bait all in the margins...beautiful fish no marks...all float fishing in margins...great lake will return!

Tried the deeper water off the lower croys in the morning, just a few Chub. Headed down to the bottom at 2pm for some madness and ran out of bait at 6.30 pm.

Another enjoyable day and my companion caught his first Barbel (“don’t they ever go” he said), he had a larger one near the end of the day and now has 6-14 as his PB.

Really struggled today. Biggest chub about 3lb and biggest barbel around 6lb. Hoards of small fish which attacked and stripped the bait immediately they hit the water with rod top banging constantly with small fish and minnows trying to remove even hard baits which I guess meant the bigger fish were not around. The usual moron of canoeists, at least I think that is the collective noun for a flotilla of canoes is ????. It would be too depressing to count them but during the day it must be 200 plus meaning you cannot fish a line out in the flow, As you have to reel in and your line would be in more than out.
Fishing near the island a no go area it was chaos. Also something to consider here is the cattle. The parking spot downstream is in a field and the cattle were all around my car. Whilst they were only inquisitive and definitely lovely looking animals I did have to keep shooing them away from my car in case they used it as a scratching post. They were also crashing around in the swim next to me after climbing down steep bank to feed on the lush vegetation.
Not one of my better wye experiences to be fair.

Lots of Small Chub and Dace on the float using corn upto 10lbs of bits 4oz to 1.5lbs. 5 Chub 2.5 to 3.5LBs Plus a small Barbel. Spotted a few Big Carp on a gravel bank and managed to hook one but it took off breaking 20lb hook length. Couldn't control it as on high bank so it went where it wanted into snags :(

Decided to fish the lowland bank on the far side of the reservoir first as the wind was blowing onto it. Fished all the way round for one brownie which took the Black Pennell on the dropper. Hopped over two barbed wire fences and waded the stream running into the reservoir to get to the other side. Found the fish in the deeper water beneath the rock face. After noticing the odd fish rising, I switched to a sedge pattern and took five fish. Three were from the same spot, which was unusual as wild brownies tend to be territorial. Lots of building work going on at the dam, so wasn't as isolated as I had hoped. But really enjoyable day's fishing and hope to be back soon.
