Managed to catch one nice trout between us on an olive quill CDC, casting to rising trout. Had a few more on nymphs that didn’t reach the net. I noticed significantly more algae present in the river compared to my last visit to this stretch a few weeks ago, is this a sign of a problem?

My first time on this beat. Beautiful place and very easy wading. It was cold and hands froze after a fairly strong shower. Water level good after recent rain. Nothing rising, no sign of trout but some good tugs and caught a couple of small out of season grayling, released intact. Tried duo but downstream wind made this too difficult, reverted to spiders with a nymph on the bottom.

Nothing caught today. Water low and was therefore able to fish most of the beat. Other comments about access could well apply if the water was high. Went through the water on dry, nymph and K and D but nothing seen and no hatch. Weather was cold for time of year. One to try later in the summer.

First day ever fishing the Usk today - what a magnificent river. The main midday olive hatch was met with heavy cold rain, I was amazed the trout were so switched on they didn't stop rising throughout. Me with soggy CDC was left powerless, what I'd have done for one of those foam sugar cube emergers I used to carry! Had a few on the CDC when the rain eventually stopped the rest on size 20 midge and gold head, best 15inches.
