One of our favourite beats which has not been kind of late. River down from day before but rose during the day. Baited up and rested swim from which we regularly catch, before casting in. Barbel was attached before the rod hit the rest and safely landed. Another Barbel lost at the net before 5 more whiskers were safely landed. All were taken on either single or double krill dumbells and came withing 5/10 of casting in, which has been our experience in the past so we recast regularly with feeder tactics. Fish all caught between 10.45 and 3 pm with nothing else until a chub snagged and lost at end of the day. Despite using rope and spike one of us managed a couple of falls so care needed. Did not bump into Andy this visit but much appreciate his help and guidance. Only fished a rod length or less from the bank.

Tough conditions today with rising river, heavy rain and windy. Could only fish inside line but no luck for any of us. To make matters worse we all ventured to the second field - what a hike !

I fished from about 2pm until sunset. River running high and fast so seeked out slack areas to present a bait. Keeping mobile and moving about kept the bites coming. 7 barbel in total and some nice chub, My first fish went 12lb 5oz and a couple of others went doubles so very enjoyable afternoons fishing. All fish caught on small baits and hooks, I found the longer hooklinks were fooling the bigger stamp of barbel.

Arrived on same beat after reasonable day before, full of expectation. River up slightly and employed same tactics but despite much effort the rods did not move. Blank day unless you count foul hooked Gudgeon. Further frustrated by losing 4 lots of gear. Will hope for better when we revisit this beat.

The river was carrying extra water today which was a lot colder than it has been for a long time. It also rose a little during the day this also didn’t help things so despite our best effort we were never going to catch a lot. This is a beautiful part of the Wye just a shame the fishing didn’t match the scenery
