A slower day with all but one fish coming after 4pm. Fish eventually responded to baiting-and-resting the swims. A second double figure barbel in two days capped off the trip at 10lb 13oz.

Second consecutive tough day - had one early and thought it was going to be good but apart from losing one at dusk very quiet. Lovely day though.

Another tough day, but a last minute move from the woods to the meadow paid off in the shape of an 11lb 2oz barbel.

A lovely autumnal day on the upper Wye. A very well looked after beat, in fact the best cared for beat I have fished in Wales, with excellent access and variety of water available to fish. Flurries of sedge and BWOs all day, but the main hatch was a prodigious spinner fall of "autumn leaves", including Oak, Beech and Ash in vast quantities, making fly fishing incredibly difficult and nigh on pointless for the majority of the day. Eventually I found a run with an eddy on the far bank which was keeping the flow clear, and managed to lever out a couple of Grayling of 1.5lb on heavy, but subtly coloured nymphs. Several salmon seen showing and two brownies lost early on in the fight.

Very poor beat. Access is poor and not worth £30

Barbel feeding well on pellets although the wind made presentation difficult.

Fished in the field below the wood. No bites until 4.15 when fish began to feed. 1 chub 3lbs about 5.30. After sunset had a barbel run but lost it. 2 anglers at the bottom end of the field caught barbel from 3pm into dark.

River still falling slowly with some colour. Very mild and breezy. Started at midday, with barbel coming at intervals until about 17.00. All the fish on meat and, remarkably, all about the same size, around 6lbs (estimated). Swim died in the evening with only a couple of smallish chub and with rain setting in I decided to call time on a good day.
