Great day's fishing including a double figure barbel of 10lb 9oz, and a chub just under 5lb. River conditions were just about perfect. 4-5 Oz weights needed to hold in the flow off the pumphouse pegs though. Especially impressive given another angler fishing the beat also managed 10 barbel.

Only had time for a few hours but had 2 chub both a couple of pounds and missed 3 or 4 good bites. Just stayed in the first field because of the cows but did walk along and had a look. There are plenty of pegs along this beat but most of them are quite steep and slippery but accessible. The river has plenty of water and appears in good order. I will return again to this beat I enjoyed it as I did upper holme lacy which is on the opposite bank.

Fish sadly not very cooperative today.
Saw one rise all day (which I could not get to come again) and Klink and dink and Deep nymph no joy either. But a lovely beat and The river very clear - to the extent that sight fishing would even have been possible if there has been a bit more sun.
Nb a word for the keen euro nympher: when they say felt soles and studs recommended here for wading they really mean it. I would not even think about trying to nymph here without them. On some of the wye and usk grayling beats you can get away without them - but not here.

My first 3 Barbel ever between 5 and 9lbs, overcast chilly day, light breeze from the south. Feeder fished hemp and halibut groundbait with halibut pellets mixed in and either Halibut or Spicy sausage pellets or luncheon meat on a hair rig fished approx 10yds out from the bank near the bottom of the beat.

Mild weather helpful as the river was running reasonably clear .... most fish taken on pellet feeder.....beautiful looking beat.
