Lovely quiet evening, all fish taken on CDC Parachute. Great to be back out. Please note there was no padlock on the gate on arrival.

Lots of hungry fish as the river dropped back to a good height but still carrying a touch of colour. Most fish caught on nymphs but with more taking an Elk hair Caddis than yesterday. Smaller average size with the largest at 16”. Not too sure of numbers as I loose count after ten.

In most respects, I had a terrific day. The water level was good and it was clear, it was warm but not too warm, and there were flies emerging in patches. Without wishing to seem to brag, I lost count of all the trout I caught. I think it was about 30, up to 1lb, and, to my surprise, a 4lb chubb, which took a salmon fly!

The area in which it was a dire day was in that there was not sign of salmon of any kind. There should be par and smolts now, and after catching 30 trout, I had thought there would be SOME salmon amongst them, but no,

First time on this beat. Travelling light was good advice. I was the only angler on the beat and fished pretty much every swim over the course of the day. Beautiful day, started at dawn with the mist hanging over the river and fields, rested in the heat of the day and started again around 4pm. Classic Wye Valley beat with plenty of wildlife, a handful of canoeists and wild swimmers all of whom seem unable to enjoy the river noiselessly. Irritating but no more. Only two fish today, but they were worth every penny.

A warm day on the river with little wind, the water was gin clear too, making this a difficult day.

I started on Dry and managed to get two fish to rise, but failed to hook either one. The third take I managed to hook but the very acrobatic brownie managed to throw the hook.

I switched to nymph and caught the graying in the fast water below the island on a GHRE.

Not the most productive of days, but really nice to be out on the Wye again.
