Beautiful little beat. Took a while to suss out all the swims after getting into a discussion with an angler who was fishing in the private wooded section.

Anyway, had a small barbel 4.5lb in size at about 11am then biteless for hours despite trying moving and static baits. Picked a likely looking swim for last couple of hours and had a chub on meat about 4lb. The hole I grabbed Mr Chevin from turned out to have an enormous snag in it which snapped me off.

Retackled and recast. Nice hard fighting barbel then ran straight into snag and broke me off. Next chuck had a 5.5lb barbel on the bank. Just before last light had the best fish of the day, a fish which felt weighty beyond it's apparent size. Weighed in at 8lb 6oz, beautiful.

That was it.

Will be back, a gorgeous setting as almost every Wye beat is. Cattle were frisky and very 'friendly'. Got so close they licked my jacket and unhooking mat. They don't worry me as I'm familiar with them but be careful not to leave tackle like your rods on the deck because these little blighters don't care where they walk.

Nice day on a lovely stretch of river. Fished feeder and pellet most of the day with barbel coming from the middle section early afternoon. Barbel were also found from the croy but none landed. A decent choice of swims.

Fishing:Winter Grayling

Two grayling caught in the first five minutes - one being one and a half pounds. Both on a dry Klinkhammer - nothing else for the rest of the day.

Good to see Edward the owners son out fishing - I hope he catches his first grayling soon!

Better day than previous as concentrated on the pegs and areas that produced the day before. Also had a couple over 10lb and the rest high singles which was very pleasing. Good average size compared to other areas we’ve been before.

I was kind of expecting a slow day so not too despondent with my return on a cold but dry autumn day....a feisty graying was the highlight of the catch and all the Chub were a fairly good stamp.
Not sure why this beat is not producing more but all part of the mystery which keeps us guessing....and coming back.
